Hi, Are WUs supposed to upload automatically on completion? They were doing so when I set the Connect to server to 10 days to build up the cache. I have now reset it to 1 day, and nothing has gone up in the last 24 hours. Ant. |

I see that the Celeron machine has uploaded on the 18th the last time, although your computers all contacted Seti today and the others are seemingly uploading well. This seems a bit queer to me. Can you copy/paste the lines of the 'messages' tab in here? Generally it's not a good idea to alter the 'connect to' in big steps - BOINC may react a bit nervously... although things will eventually straighten out. :-)= Greybeard All about BOINC: BOINC-Wiki (by Paul D. Hi, Yes I noticed the same thing, all machines have contacted the server on completion of individual WUs, but still appear in the work window as ready to report. I have just manually updated the Celeron machine, and all the ready to report have disappeared from the work window. Below is todays log for the Celeron machine. 22/12/2005 00:07:33|SETI@home|Started upload of 27se04ab.4582.25264.1015912.143_1_0 22/12/2005 00:07:36|SETI@home|Finished upload of Hi, Yes I noticed the same thing, all machines have contacted the server on completion of individual WUs, but still appear in the work window as ready to report. That's just one of the things that can happen when you set the 'connect to' value lower (I should have thought of that). The results are immediately uploaded when they are finished, but they only report when you d/l new work. Your system, however, will not download new work for quite a while, because it has lots of cached WUs from the time when set to 10 days. You can report those WUs manually by going to 'projects' tab, highlight Seti and then press 'update'. :-)= Greybeard All about BOINC: BOINC-Wiki (by Paul D. Buck) |

Thanks for that, just one further question while you are there, I downloaded BOINC months ago, hence 4.18, any advantages in updating to a newer version. Version 4.18 is the SETI science application, and is currently used. As a matter of fact, when the science application is updated, it'll be downloaded automatically by BOINC without you needing to do anything. The BOINC software you installed months ago is version 4.25. You can see this when you restart BOINC, on the Messages tab. The current release is 5.2.13, and I'd highly recommend updating. There have been a lot of bug fixes and improvements between the two versions. MJ |

How do you work that out, 4.25. See my earlier post with a copy of the message log, in there it says 4.18. Your log shows: 22/12/2005 15:44:00|SETI@home|Starting result 13fe05aa.24442.18769.79836.206_2 using setiathome version 4.18 That's the science application. From my own installation, the very first line after startup is: 12/21/2005 12:41:09 AM||Starting BOINC client version 5.2.13 for windows_intelx86 That's the BOINC client. Where I found it for your computer is by clicking on your name to get to your account, then on Computers View, then the ID number of the top computer on the list, and then the number of results at the bottom of the page. I went to the first completed result (on the second page), clicked on the Result ID, and found: <core_client_version>4.25</core_client_version> 8-) MJ |

So which do I believe. You believe both, as they're two separate parts of the system. BOINC 4.24 (or 5.2.13) is the platform, if you will, that supports and manages the science. It schedules work, gets work, sends it back, lets you know what's going on. It doesn't do any science processing. SETIathome 4.18 is the science application. This is what does the actualy number crunching that will, one hopes, find evidence of ETI. You can run various science applications on BOINC, some of which you can see in the stats in my signature. Each application does its own work, and BOINC keeps the whole system going. MJ |

So which do I believe. Thanks for that, now I have a better understanding of what is happening. Hopefully now my last query, if I download the latest BOINC, will it just overwrite my existing version, or will it need a clean install. Ant. |
