Hi philip,
please use the "Edit this post" link and remove your account info from your post.
It shouldn't be there visible to all the world.

Try the following in a dos box:

"ping setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu"

and post the results.

Regards Hans

Hi Hans and thanks for your speedy reply (I edited that thing)

Here's what came back:

Ping statistics from 128.32.18.173:
Packets sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0%loss)

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 130ms, Maximum = 132 ms, Average = 130 ms.

Does this help you??? Now What?

Thanks again,,,PHIL

Hi Phil,

I just checked to be sure, and I'm able to ping the above address.
This means there's a communication problem between your ISP and the setiboincdata host.

You should try to contact your ISP and tell him you want to contact the above host,
maybe they'll be able to fix this.

In the meantime, to get around this, you'll have to use a proxy server with boinc.

You can find lists of free proxy servers at sites like this

Since I don't use the GUI I hope that someone else will join the discussion and guide you to the right menu entry to tell boinc it should use a proxy.

Regards Hans

Hi Philip.

I've read your posts to this thread. I see you're attached, have successfully "activated" the account made for you that IS linked to your classic account. great.

I see you have two wus still on your puter (or atleast that's what berkeley says). you have been successfully returning assigned work and did so as early as 30 Nov 2005 0:55:11 UTC (thats, 50 minutes ago)

Is your issue resolved? If not how may I help?

tony

By the way, your last wu was reported back to Berkeley 7 minutes prior to your first post in this thread.

hang on, hans, unless i'm missing something major here, surely his "0% loss" indicates that he can contact the scheduler?? and there's no need to use a proxy?

This means there's a communication problem between your ISP and the setiboincdata host.

and before assuming that it's a problems with the data server, surely it would be wise to check first by getting him to ping it, i don't nee any mention of setiboincdata in the original messages

maybe it's that the web server on the scheduler is a bit stressed
trying it in a browser is also sensible i think (http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi and http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/)
