The value points to a server problem: Error codes in the Wiki. Give it some time, see if it comes back or other people report errors. Are any of the other projects having problems connecting?

No errors but i do have 4 WU's waiting to be downloaded and I see the project is being deferred repeatedly for the last 2 hours. The WU's have been waiting to download for 2 hours too.

BOINC cannot see the seti web server. Simplest step one is to reboot the computer ... if that does not get it, Ian will be here soon ... the last time I went beyond step one he remonstraed with me ... :)

Hi Ian! :)

Besides, as far as networking goes, I am past my level of incompetence ...

Spectrum,
Try the following:

Type http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi into your browser and see what you get. If it's a 500 error (Page cannot be displayed/Internal Server Error) then you need to check every system between your PC and the internet including proxies etc.

If it all appears fine, ask Tigher.

That's good news. That means you have access from your browser. Was this on the PC that is having problems or not. Try it there if you haven't because that seems to be a little confusing if it is. Make sure proxys are setup correctly. I know sometimes people turn on proxys and then leave them on.

Yes it was on the PC in question and as far as proxies go I have never used them.

Problem found and fixed, My son changed the isp connection to run through a server he built and for some reason the settings in windows had to be changed in the Internet Properties/Connections/Lan Settings so that the automatically detect settings box is unchecked.
Thanks for the input to all that chimed in!

That's a time-out error: discussion in the Wiki... Not much different from the 500, though more specific, sorta.

Well the 500 error was a fatal event, which could be caused by programming problme s of system faults (MySQL down, etc.)

Time out means that things were going along but in the exchange of messages too long a time elapsed between one and the next. This can be caused by a breakdown ANYWHERE in the process between the client and the server.

I would do a tracert to the server to see if there is a long delay on your path to the server. If there is then using a proxy will/should give you a temporary work around. Also inform your service provider of the problem and give them a couple days to fix it if they can. I have had to do this myself a few times.

There are usable proxies Here . I have found it best to start looking at the bottom of the list because everyone else probably starts at the top. This will give you a proxy that is used less and will most likely function longer.

Best of luck

EDIT; I just checked one out at 207.255.1.174 port 8080 that is nice and fast.

98SE XP2500+ @ 2.1 GHz Boinc v5.8.8

And God said"Let there be light."But then the program crashed because he was trying to access the 'light' property of a NULL universe pointer.

It worked for 30 minutes and went down again, Steve thanks to you though I am running the proxy just fine as a stop-gap measure until my son can figure out what the hell is going on with the server he built.
