Hi,

You haven't told BOINC that it has to connect to SETI, because your computer doesn't show up under your name.

There is a good set up guide for BOINC here.
If you still have problems, please go to your "messages" tab and copy the messages to this post, and we'll do our best to figure everything out with you.

Welcome to BOINC!!!

Your question lacks details, but I think that this happened to me too! The promised "Join Project" wizard does not appear after 5.2.8 installation on Windows, even though the box is checked. (Two independent installations did this to me.) The status bar says "not connected", no messages, nothing!

Attempts to join a project from the menu bar fail. No messages as to why.

After reading the web page "Getting Started" again, I realized that the promised post-installation "Join Project" wizard never ran. I thought that I would give BOINC a second chance: I restarted the BOINC Manager, and BOINC! the promised wizard appeared!

Quick Fixes:
1. *Exit* the BOINC Manager (use the tray icon.) Restart it from the Start Menu. Or,
2. Reboot your computer. (The infamous Windows cure-all.) Or,
3. Re-install BOINC.

Given the status of "not connected" in the virgin post-installation state, perhaps connecting to "localhost" from the menu before attempting to join a project would also work. Given that re-installation cures the problem, I speculate that testers never encountered this problem because they don't really do virgin installations

Thanks for the help, but Seti, running under Boinc is so dumb that they have apparently shutdown their account server. What a bunch of dorks!

If they want crunchers, they'd best get on the ball and quit acting like a bunch of rejects.

Is that the message you get after you tried to create a new account?
Have you tried using the Use Existing Account option, since you can post on these forums, so you have an account already. You may want to change your password first though.

Ageless,

Thanks for your concern. I found a solution to the problem today. It seems that after I relogged into my seti web account and then fired up the manager, the manager was then able to connect me.

Now, how do you get some work?

BTW, I have three computers, do I have to run the manager on all three or is there a way to add them to this machines manager, which would be the easiest?
