Seti@Home Classic has been very successful, and uses a fairly simple interface to the main database of work units. There are a great many users of Seti Classic. Boinc is a more sophisticated interface, and will be the future sole method of processing Seti units. Unfortunately, since it's introduction, it has had a lot of difficulty getting this interface to work properly for Seti and support large numbers of users. Consequentally, the Classic interface has been kept running for longer than was originally intended, while the problems with Seti Boinc are being sorted out. The last thing Seti Boinc needs is a huge influx of users while it is troubleshooting. There has been no formal announcement of the end of Seti Classic, though downloads of the software have recently been stopped. Presumably this means that the Seti team believe that Seti Boinc can now handle all the new users who want to start Seti processing. Once the Seti Boinc interface has been shown to handle large numbers of people reliably the Classic interface will be presumably be withdrawn, with a period of notice of a couple of months. As of 10 Sept 2005 the Seti Boinc interface has not been reliable; no doubt it will become so in the near future. |

KEN LANGLEY KWLWORLD@MSN.COM The only thing that's been turned off so far is the ability to start a new account. So all you need, as an existing participant, would be the software and your password. The software is still available at download.com. By the way, it looks as if your caps lock is stuck.... MJ |

I've downloaded the new software and the screensaver keeps coming up with the error message. NVidia Open GL Driver error. Hit Escape. Also my old version is still running. How long before updated information is transferred since March? Also, any thoughts on the Driver error? |

How long before updated information is transferred since March? Also, any thoughts on the Driver error? The information since March for SETI Classic will be updated once it is finally shut down permanently, sometime before the end of this year is the word going around. I have no idea about your OpenGL error - I don't have much experience in that area. Sorry. |
