When in doubt, ponder this: If Pro is the opposite of Con... Is Congress the opposite of Progress? |

[read as 1930's news real, cue rotating biplane] DATELINE - BERKELEY CITY, USA In a move that has appeased the masses, President Roosevelt has signed into law and created the Work Unit Welfare Administration Office. With so many of the worlds peoples out of work, President Roosevelt has requisitioned massive amounts of American dollars from Congress to aid us in this dark time. The hopes of us all are riding on this new departments ability to Federally subsidize work - and kick-start a New Deal. President Roosevelt has also asked that the Justice Department investigate the Berkely staff under the new Anti-Trust Laws for creating a monopoly on work units. While Berkeley is widely known to be the main supplier of work units, they have always maintained that they are not the only source available and the public is welcome to go elsewhere through Berkeley's system. And that's the News Today. [iris out] ![]() 7,049 S@H Classic Credits |

NEWS JUST TO HAND. On his way home from a gig in Silicon Valley UCBs Matt Lebofsky (famed and revered SETI@home scientist and administrator) was mugged by a disgruntled cruncher, when asked about the mugging Mr Lebofsky replied "The mugger yelled something pretty incoherently, but I think I heard the words "....give me your fscking wu's before I steal your guitar....". On much investigation by this office we found the mugger curled up beside his computer sobbing and wracked by body shacking shivers crying "give me wu's, I just need a wu". On further investigation it has been discovered that there appears to be a near world wide phenomonon of muggings of Matt Lebofsky dopplegangers (who new there were so many). A general call has been made to UCB SSL by world wide authorities to start re-issuing wu's before there is an uprising of geeks around the world. |

Tue Aug 30 20:52:51 UTC 2005 Tragedy strikes at UCB During a debugging session at UCB, a small mistake had servere consequences today. While scientists where finishing the days work with running a few tests to make sure everything was well, what should have been an "S" was mistyped as a "Y". Only too late the scientists at the lab found out something was wrong, and not having made the proper precautions, the download of what should have been "Seti@Home" became the download of "Yeti@Home". There were no survivors... The Seti@Home project now has come to a complete halt, and former Seti@Home crunchers are urged by the local authorities of Berkeley to join the Yeti@Large project. August 30, 2005 - PU News, Los Angeles After years of searching, the Seti organization announced today that they have received and deciphered a message from deep space. The message, loosely translated, reads "I think they've given up, Zorg, the phone hasn't rang since last Tuesday". Film at 11. |
