i just tried to surf on over to the Predictor@Home site and it appears the site and scheduler are down. not good, since LHC is out of work, SETI is down, and now no Predictor... if Einstein goes that will be my last project... what's the deal? Chained to the dream they got you searching for, the thin line between entertainment and war... Zack de la Roche |

Sure enough, Predictor's died! See here for a confirmation. Just have look what's UP at the moment! 6 out of 10 projects UP 4 out of 10 DOWN! (sarcasm mode on) Not bad really! There's always SZTAKI. If you can wrestle yourself through the Hungarian sign up. :) Oh, and CPDN of course. |

There's always SZTAKI. If you can wrestle yourself through the Hungarian sign up. :) Use the URLs! They are in ENGLISH! Check the status bar of your browser to find the create_account.php link (3 or 4 down on the menu) and then it is possible. Took me a while to work it out too! |

i tried runnin CPDN, as u can see below, but since i stager my projects active time (meaning i only run 1 or 2 of my project at the same time, so work finishes faster) i found my old 900 Mhtz AMD might not actually finish the WU before deadline... sad really... i signed up for messenger, but how knows how long before my account is activated. Now i need a backup project for my backup project which was a backup project etc.. While i´m attaching to my backup project (Predictor@Home) it "died" but i´ve managed to get some work before it happened (setiathome cache set to 6 days was finished on all of my 18 machines crunching). So might the failure of predictor and the other projects be related to the seti shutdown ??? Seems as if there´s like an vicious circle... regards Crunch3r Join BOINC United now! |

So might the failure of predictor and the other projects be related to the seti shutdown ??? No. Projects are completely independent of each other. The only place they connect with each other is on the client computers. Of course seti being down has probably increased the demand for work on the other projects so if they don't have enough work units it could run them out quicker. By the way, Predictor is back up. According to the website, they were down for a total of 15 minutes to generate some new work. This is why I don't bother mentioning outages unless they go over a couple of hours :) A member of The Knights Who Say NI! For rankings, history graphs and more, check out: My BOINC stats site |

According to the website, they were down for a total of 15 minutes to generate some new work. That news was dated 16th August! presume it's not the same the again... then again with SETI down for so long it could be! :) cheers, Paul. Wanna visit BOINC Synergy? Click my stats! According to the website, they were down for a total of 15 minutes to generate some new work. Predictor has 64,014 hosts crunching, and SETI has 390,333. Clearly, SETI is the BOINC "load test" but doesn't that mean the folks at Predictor (or LHC, or Einstein) should have an easier task? |

Yes... in a way.... but with those number in mind, it stands to reason that predictor (or e@h) don't require the same WU generating capacity as SETI. Since all these guys are likely working on tight budgets, it would make sense then that they might not have the resources available to handle a sudden and sustained (short term) increase in WU demand. LHC is slightly different in so far as they only ever generate work when the scientists need it. At the moment they don't need a whole lot. (more on the way though! :) ) cheers, Paul. Predictor is running up absolutely fine ATM. It has been down several times in the past but never slightly as serious as SETI :P Also people over there are very nice persons, who thank you for complaining about things going wrong... If you prefer a reliably run project, join Einstein!! No project is run better than Einstein! Even if things go seriously wrong, you simply tell them, that something is wrong and the 'people in charge' immediately react and get things running straight again and even say 'thank you' instead of bashing you as a 'nay sayer' as here at SETI. Just see here Done for now, signing off until things smooth out here... Aloha, Uli |

Well, maybe... :) My PowerMac seems to be trying to get work from Einstein@Home and keeps getting, supposidly, its daily quota. But, nary a work unit in the basket. Not sure why this is happening. But, I did update to 4.72 to see if tomorrow I can get EAH work ... Hmmm, I can also see if CPDN works better with 4.72 also ... as far as thank you and bashing. For the most part the same people are in the same places with the exception of the project personnel. And Rom and Matt, the SETI@Home people that most often post here don't bash anyone. But, that is just my opinion. |
