I did not notice that Rom's thread was directed to "Alpha" users only. Funny how "optimizing" or otherwise "hacking" production applications is allowed, but running an "Alpha" manager is frowned on. |

I did not notice that Rom's thread was directed to "Alpha" users only. What is frowned on is using the Alpha test product and then complaining that it does not work. The big bold red letters should give people a clue. But after EVERY drop it seems at least one person will download it, find it eats his CPDN work unit or not work with SETI@Home or whatever, and then they get mad about it. That is all. Use at your own risk, and don't complain if it does not work. But no one is frowning on anyone that uses it ... just on those that assume the risk and get stung ... |

The big bold red letters should give people a clue. But after EVERY drop it seems at least one person will download it, find it eats his CPDN work unit. One doesn't need an Alpha client for that, Paul. More normal used clients are very well capable of doing that. Or else it's CPDN itself. ;) May I say that the F1 button now really works? Great to see it go to the page it was supposed to go to. Kuddos. :) |

There are no big Red letters where I got the .exe and I'm not complaining about it not working correctly. I will comment on any malfunction I find, as that is what is expected of "Alpha" users. |

There are no big Red letters where I got the .exe You ought to complain at that site then... If a site says it's the next version, without saying it's a development version.... Anyway, how would you know they didn't make it themselves? |

There are no big Red letters where I got the .exe He probably got it from the download directory index page. It has no info about the files. |

I2satx, see pauls comments. The Alpha group has it's own website and is closed to new members. THe Alpha group doesn't use the message boards like we do. It corresponds via email. About 2 or so months ago, they quit using these forums and members for checking out Developmental versions. They pulled them back to the Alpha group. Reporting errors here may or may not yield you any assistance, like it used to. It's important that members know this to avoid any unpleasant surprises. I think they should find some new way of distributing the new versions, but they haven't. If someone downloads this thinking it might be a cure for thier problems, just to run into more problems they get mad. Information is needed to make any decision, and I am getting info out there, so you and others might make a more informed decision. Good luck with running it. JM7 has already reported an "Idle CPU" problem with it(one he thought had already been fixed). tony |

Tony, since you seem to be interested.......check the CPU utilization of 4.70. I've already reverted. |

On my AMD CPUs, 4.70 used 5% of CPU. |

Consistantly? Which process? boinc.exe or boincmgr.exe? Rom, 4.70 (boincmgr.exe)continuously takes up between 6 and 13% of my processor, and CRSS.exe another 2%. tony [edit] and it doesn't matter if Boincmgr is open or minimized to the taskbar |

On my PC Boincmgr.exe took 9-15% CPU time continiously (when minimized). PIV 2.26GHz, WinXP pro |
