I have 2 pc's on home network , decided to load set@home for my secondary pc , cause it sits idle alot. i dl'ed boinc and installed it on my older pc , but it never can connect to the net. i have uninstalled and reinstalled several times , but it doesnt help. thought something was wrong with my pc so i loaded it on my newer one , and it runs flawless. so i tried the older version of seti@home on my old pc and it works like a charm. dont understand what the problem is , would love for someone to help me with it , dont know what specs you woould need to know , so just ask and i will list all specs of either box. thank you for your help |

Please open Boinc Manager (assuming you are using it), go to the tab "Messages" and copy relevant message(s) in your post. The message tab is THE tab to look at when something is not going like it should. Read the News at the homepage Have a look at the Technical News Look if your question is not answered at the Boinc Wiki Best greetings, Thierry |

I believe that you are having a problem connecting the manager to the daemon. In the manager, File - Select computer. Type in localhost. This should work. If not, exit BOINC Manager (this will also exit the BOINC daemon unless you are installed as a service). If you are installed as a service, run the BOINC manager. If you are not installed as a service, run BOINC.exe, wait 2 minutes, run BOINC manager BOINC WIKI |

I believe that you are having a problem connecting the manager to the daemon. In the manager, File - Select computer. Type in localhost. This should work. I have not gotten any version of BOINC to work beyond 4.19. I've never gotten any version (4.25,4.27,4.32.4.43,4.44) to connect. The connection always fails. I have tried connecting to localhost and that does not work. There is no information given to give a clue as to why it fails to connect between the manager and the app. I guess I can continue to run 4.19 but I sure would like to run a newer version. Doesn't any one have any clues to why it doesn't connect. I am not running any firewall of any kind. I am running XP Media Center 2002 SP2. I have McAffee Virus checker installed. |

I believe that you are having a problem connecting the manager to the daemon. In the manager, File - Select computer. Type in localhost. This should work. Unless you have turned off the built in firewall, you have a firewall that is probably denying the manager access to the daemon. BOINC WIKI |

i disabled windows native firewall right after sp2 , i also disabled EZ armor firewall as well , and dmz hosted from my router , still would not connect , but 4.19 , and the original one from seti both work fine on that box , my other pc , has the latest version of boinc running no probs , with ez armor firewall up and running , so i dont believe the problem is fw related , i will try the "localhost" and run as service to see if either one of those work , thanks for the help so far |

I'm also having this problem(version 4.43), but with me it only ever happens at start up. When I look in the Boinc Manager I get blank screens. I then exit the manager using the exit command on the file menu. When I restart the manager using the shortcut on the start menu and check the messages I see a complete list of all activities that have taken place on the machine. This reveals that the Boinc software was apparently processing data successfully while the manager was shut down. So in my case boinc is working perfectly while the manager cannot connect to it. My problem is that I have to continually restart it. Prior to this I used 4.25 without any problems. I am not running it as a service by the way. I believe that you are having a problem connecting the manager to the daemon. In the manager, File - Select computer. Type in localhost. This should work. |

One oddity I noticed on my system is that when removing open office (1.9.100) it needed me to shut down Boinc Manager before it could do so. So I'm wondering if you are also running Open office possibly with the icon in the system tray (on the bottom right). I believe that you are having a problem connecting the manager to the daemon. In the manager, File - Select computer. Type in localhost. This should work. |
