I think this has been brought up before but I can't find the thread ... Anyway, does anybody know how to clear the text from the BOINC GUI window without shutting down BOINC ... There is a problem with doing that if you run the Predictor Project as it will make you start the WU over if you shut off BOINC & then Restart it again ... I've tried everything I can think of to clear the text file but nothing seems to work ... any ideas out there ??? |

I already deleted those files Quail with no luck....Thanks for the ideas anyway :) Guido, please keep your freaking pictures out of my Thread ... If I had the power you would no longer be a member of the Forum, you have done nothing but spam the entire forum endlessly with your stupid pictures thus forcing everybody to take longer to open up the threads you have inseminated with your meaningless and pointless pictures ... |

I doubt you can, PB. It won't be by deleting the contents of the stdout.txt in the root directory of your BOINC directory, as that is only the log file. What if you restart BOINC when that PAH unit is finished & uploaded? ---------------------- Jordâ„¢ |

I just wanted to respond about Guido's pictures. I would have started a new thread for this but I am going to be referencing all of the the other posts in this thread so I thought it would be best right here. 1. Let's get over this idea that the pictures force everyone to take longer to open a thread. They don't in the least. In case you haven't noticed the entire text of all posts in a thread are loaded first. Then at the last the pictures are loaded. So even if it takes forever to load all the pictures you can still read the posts while they are downloading and then move on before their done if you're not interested in the pics or wait for them to finish if you are. 2. The pics aren't that big anyway. In this thread guido's picture is 8,763 bytes. Poorboy, YOUR alienware pic is 20,577 bytes (2.35 times the size). Jorden's stats picture is 12,635 and quail's stats pic is 51,117. Guido's is the smallest of all of them. Since the majority of the posters in these forums are using the stats pictures, they are, more than anything, slowing up the loading of the threads. 3. I reassert they aren't really slowing anything up anyway. I use myself as proof of that. I am forced (due to my geographical backwoods location) to use a 26Kbps dial-up account for internet access (yes I have 56K modem but the phone lines don't accept that fast: I did say BACKWOODS). I have never noticed a problem with loading these pages compared with the average time it takes to load other web pages. So if I am not experiencing extra-ordinary slow down I seriously doubt others are; especially if they have DSL. |

>quail's stats pic is 51,117 Jodeum how do you come up with that file size when the actual file size of my stats counter pic on my server is 12,288 bytes Cheers Quail <a> Wireless Signals of the Past |

He's probably using Mozilla of sorts. ;) I can check the properties of your picture as well, it's correct what he said. Size of file: 49.92KB (51117 bytes) |

yes i concur, but it is out of my control as the pic on my server is the size as i said b4 the increase in size is due to the fact it is being converted from *.jpg to *.png by Seti Boinc Stats Counter by Neil Munday By the way i not trying to pass the buck, but just stating facts as i see it Cheers Quail <a> Wireless Signals of the Past |

I'm not sure about other browsers or OS's but in WinXP MS internet explorer version 6 I just right click on any graphic then left click on properties. That tells me the type of file, the size, dimensions, originating url and date created/modified. |

Don't get me wrong Quail. I am not saying the size of your pic is bad or anything. I was just using every pics size in the entire thread to put it into perspective. Personally I don't care about the size of the pics. |

Not only is a JPEG, it's bigger than the signature as well, so Neil's site has to resize it. Why don't you make it a 280x81 pixel PNG file yourself? That way you won't lose any quality, while the compression of PNG files makes the actual starting file a lot smaller. The background picture I use is around 4KB (4163 bytes) while it's sized to fit (280x81px). It's PNG. (/me wonders if we have hijacked Poorboy's thread enough by now ;)) ---------------------- Jordâ„¢ |

Ok John, at least if thats true I know now that the byte size for the .txt file won't just keep getting bigger and bigger. |
