now a song the cafe crowd can sing along with.

"You Never Even Called Me By My Name"
a.p.b. David Allan Coe

Well it was all that I could do
To keep from cryin'
Sometimes it seems so useless to remain
But you don't have to call me "darlin'," darlin.
You never even call me by my name

You don't have to call me Waylon Jennings
And you don't have to call me Charlie Pride.
And you don't have to call me Merle Haggard, anymore.
Even though you're on my fightin' side.

CHORUS:
And I'll hang around as long as you will let me
I never minded standin' in the rain.
You don't have to call me "darlin'," darlin.
You never even call me by name

(optional third verse)
I've seen my name a few times in your phonebook
And I've seen it on signs where I play.
But the only time I know
I'll hear "David Allan Coe"
Is when Jesus has his final judgement day

CHORUS

(spoken by D.A.C.)
Well a friend of mine named Steve Goodman wrote that song, and he
told me it was the perfect country and western song. Well, I
wrote 'im back a letter and told him it was not the perfect
country and western song 'cause he hadn't said anything at all
about mama or trains or trucks or prison or gettin' drunk. Well,
he sat down and wrote another verse to this song and he sent it
to me and after readin' it I realized that my friend had written
the perfect country and western song. I felt obliged to include
it on this album. The last verse goes like this here:

Well I was drunk the day my mama got outta prison
And I went to pick 'er up in the rain
But before I could get to the station in my pickup..truck,
She got runned over by a damned old train.

REPEAT CHORUS

PROUD TO BE TFFE!

<B>SHAMELESS[/b]

Well I'm shamemeless when it comes to loving you
I'll do anything you want me to
I'll do anything at all

And I'm standing here for all the world to see
Oh baby, that's what's left of me
Don't have very far to fall

You know now I'm not a man who's ever been
Insecure about the world I've been living in
I don't break easy, I have my pride
But if you need to be satisfied

I'm shameless, oh honey, I don't have a prayer
Every time I see you standin' there
I go down upon my knees

And I'm changing, swore I'd never compromise
Oh, but you convinced me otherwise
I'll do anything you please

You see in all my life I've never found
What I couldn't resist, what I couldn't turn down
I could walk away from anyone I ever knew
But I can't walk away from you

I have never let anything have this much control over me
I work too hard to call my life my own
I have never let anything have this much control over me
I work too hard to call my life my own
And I've made myself a world and it's worked so perfectly
But it's your world now, I can't refuse
I've never had so much to lose
Oh, I'm shameless

You know it should be easy for a man who's strong
To say he's sorry or admit when he's wrong
I've never lost anything I've ever missed
But I've never been in love like this

It's out of my hands

I'm shameless, I don't have the power now
I don't want it anyhow
So I got to let it go

Oh, I'm shameless, shameless as a man can be
You make a total fool of me
I just wanted to you to know

Oh, I'm shameless, I just wanted you to know
Oh, I'm shameless, Oh, I'm down on my knees... shameless

Now is it the Billy Joel version or the Garth Brooks Version :)

[smacks the Wolf with a newspaper]
Billy Joel! Though I think Leningrad was the best song on the album.

As for Garth Brooks, the same applies to "Reason to Believe". Y'can't have a grown man singin' and a-cryin' t'a ladies' song, y'hear?

Garths best songs were the "The Dance" and "The River". .o0(guess I should try and link the song itself)

They're not at the iTunes store. At least, not Garth's rendition.

Then again, the most counrty-ish song I have is a badly codec-ed copy the "The House of the Rising Sun" and a copy of The Revolution Starts Now...

I am not surprized they are at the iTunes Store. Garth is still kind of picky where his songs are sold.

The House of the Rising Sun and the Revolution starts now are Southern Rock.. There is a sutle difference.

There is a sutle difference.
I haven't a clue about country. All I know is that "Country" is the Anglo-twanged equivalent of Tango.
    Country <-> Tango<li>"My wife had an affair…" <-> "Mi mujer me traicinó…"</li><li>"I wanna go home…" <-> "Volver…"</li><li>"It's a sad, sad world…" <-> "Siglo XX Cambalache…"</li><li>"I was rootin' at the dog races…" <-> "Leguisamo Solo…"</li>

>Uuhh, you would never dare to do this here in this company of Klingons and Vulcans...
The album is called "Banned on Vulcan". See also "I wanna go home…"

Country Music has it's roots in the Soutern Portion of the US. Trace back the ancestery of most of the South and you'll end up in Ireland or the Scotish Highlands.

This is of course discounting the Western Influence. Remember it was called Country AND Western long before it was shortened to just Country.

Southern Rock has the original rock sound with a Country Influence. Bands like Charlie Daniels Band, .38 Special, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and even The Eagles all make up Southern Rock.

I was listening to C&W long before most folks up North knew it existed. One of the oldest FM Country stations is in Troy New York. WGNA-FM 107.7.

I did my stint with early rock (bubble gum) and soon switched to Folk Music (Cat Stevens, and such) and before I knew it I was listening exclusively to Country..

Now I do mellow out listening to Celtic Folk music :) (trying to learn Gaelic so I can understand it)....

Roll out the barrel
We'll have a barrel of fun
Roll out the barrel
We've got the blues on the run.
Zing! Boom! Tar-rar-rel
Ring out a song of good cheer!
Now's the time to roll the barrel
For the gang's all here.

"Hey there" yourself Byron! :-D

I remember the song very well, but I prefer Bobby McFerrin and Yo-Yo Ma together on "Hush".

Time after Time was also covered by Eva Cassidy on the TV series Smallville, used on the episode "Crush" during a rainy funeral scene. It was a very well done scene I thought, though I kinda wish they had used the Cyndi Lauper original. I was in high school when that came out, and it, well, brings back some good memories.

Where Western is concerned, there's very little REAL Western left. Haven't heard anyone yodel Western-style in years.

I'm an ol' cowpoke,
I don't use no soap,
I swings a rope,
And eats antelope,
No Sunday thunder's got me buffaloed.
Devastation rides upon my breath,
And I scare the ladies plum ta death,
When I rares back in the saddle
And I lets a yodel go.

Yo-di-lay-ee-oh-de-lo-oh-yo-di-lay-ee-ae-ee,
Yo-di-lay-ee-oh-de-lo-oh-yo-di-lay-ee-ae-ee,
Yo-di-lay-ee-ay-ee,
ae-de-oh-de-lay-ee-ee.

Well spin my spurs and kick my rope,
I soaked up too much campfire smoke.
This ol' cowpoke's headin for town.
Yeah I just got paid, my sich is frayed,
This ain't no social call it's a RAID!
I'm an ol' lone wolf with a barb wire tail
And it's my night to howl.

Yo-di-lay-ee-oh-de-lo-oh-yo-di-lay-ee-ae-ee,
Yo-di-lay-ee-oh-de-lo-oh-yo-di-lay-ee-ae-ee,
Yo-di-lay-ee-ay-ee,
ae-de-oh-de-lay-ee-ee.

Now some folks say that life is swell,
Some complain it's troublesome.
But I don't care if it's heaven or hell,
I'm gonna have me some fun.

Barkeep, call that a double? (yeah)
Well make mine a double-double. (alright)
Stronger whiskey and weaker women's what I say.
Yeah I'll sit here and drink 'til I get full,
Then try to stop this rodeo bull,
There'll be a whole lotta me that's a bluffin' man
And a whole lotta me that ain't.

Yo-di-lay-ee-oh-de-lo-oh-yo-di-lay-ee-ae-ee,
Yo-di-lay-ee-oh-de-lo-oh-yo-di-lay-ee-ae-ee,
Yo-di-lay-ee-ay-ee,
ae-de-oh-de-lay-ee-ee.

Weeeeelll, bustin' bottles and flyin' lead,
They broke a porch o' furniture over my head.
I had quite a time last night, that's what I hear. (Shore did, Slim)
But the mornin' comes and the sun's gettin' brighter.
I'm snakin' cross this prarie like a spider...hehehe.
I hope the sherriff ain't takin' the trail I'm makin,
Back to wherever-it-is.

Yo-di-lay-ee-oh-de-lo-oh-yo-di-lay-ee-ae-ee,
Yo-di-lay-ee-oh-de-lo-oh-yo-di-lay-ee-ae-ee,
Yo-di-lay-ee-ay-ee,
ae-de-oh-de-lay-ee-ee.
