Siran, I thank you for your protection but it is not needed in this case. I Already determined mr Zimmerman as a Friend. He is known. I do suspect new posters and their motives because of the past events which is sad to say. Again, Mr. Zimmerman I am sorry. Sanger. Thanks.I am sorry Siran, Of course I love ya man. But dont lump Mr. Zimmerman in with the trolls. Respectfully, Timmy ![]() |

Tim creates avatars for users, free of charge. That is his service to the community here. The only thing he asks is that no one uses an avatar he has created for another user. > > So, please pardon my suspicious nature. > > just dont get in a conspiracy theory mood;-) Not into conspiracy theories, just suspicious by nature. Everybody needs a nap!!! Come in, sit down, have some coffee and pastry and lets just enjoy the cafe.. No need to get suspicious of anyone until they start to prove otherwise.. I am just glad I made that inappropriate remark about Guido before all this chit hit the fan or else I may be on the troll list too.. I'd rather speak my mind because it hurts too much to bite my tongue. American Spirit BBQ Proudly Serving those that courageously defend freedom. |

This was part of the original post from Sanger to me: Hello Rick, with a little bit of research on your side before launching any accusations, you would have found (as i have) that they are classic s@h participants, who have just come here. (same name, different profiles). Through my own research, I have found that the 3 in question, do in fact NOT have accounts at "Classic" SETI. And, here's the one exclusive clue that keeps my suspicions alive and well. When someone comes here from "Classic" and creates a BOINC account, the original "Joined Date" is that which was when they joined "Classic", not when they started with BOINC. Look at mine: May 21, 1999 BOINC did not exist in 1999. So, Timmy, my original suspicions remain intact, sorry my friend. [Maybe group is where we need to be.] L8R.... --- My Time: Saturday, 15 January 2005 - 10:52 AM --800 (Pacific Standard Time) CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? There is no info on my account because I have yet to decide if I want to commit to the process. I'm just technologically literate enough to be paranoid about the security of my machines if I 'link' up. I was hoping to hear some discussion of the possible pitfalls and other considerations which may arise from 'linking' in. Before someone tries to be helpful and tell me to go to the FAQ page or something like that, be assured I've tried some of that, only to quickly discover that I know not enough to get what I need to know there. If anyone could or would take the time to tutor me in some of this, I would appreciate it. I've always been somewhat awed and fascinated with the Seti project's process and considered becoming a part. I have no care for credit or fame, I've got processing capacity beyond my needs and I'm willing to share, .....if it doesn't cause trouble that I wouldn't be able to 'control' or 'fix'. Like I said, I'm just barely technologically literate enough to get myself in trouble now. thanks, in advance.... |

Hi Paul glad to see you back! As far as security I am sure someone will expain it better than me, But I can assure you you Units are safe and secure, I personally hide my puters but that is my choice. I am not worried about people doing something malicious, It's a personal thing. Your IP number only shows in your accout the outside world cannot see them. I hope this helps! let me know if I don't know then we will find someone who will! Glad to have you on board! Timmy Spelling doesn't count! ![]() |

> thanks, in advance.... > The number crunching program is isolated to your system and only your system. Whatever computer you use connects to the Servers that store the available WU's(Work Units). The download to your system is initated by your system. Seti@HOME or BOINC will not leave your system open to vicious attacks. Five of the systems I run SETI@HOME on sit behind a Cisco PIX Firewall and I didn't have to punch a hole through that firewall to alloow SETI to work. If you could look at the IP addresses that are assigned to my systems you will see that they are all non-routerable IP's. IP addresses in the 10.x.x.x block are in the Class A private network block. IP addresses in the 192.168.x.x are in the Class C private block. Being a Network Engineer of decent standing in the Network Community I would not allow those addresses to be shown if I did not make sure that my systems were safe. One of the systems SETi@HOME runs on is my Web Server and it barely knows it's running.. I hope that answers your question.. I'd rather speak my mind because it hurts too much to bite my tongue. er, ah..... is it Tim, Timmy or ca? if you have no preference I'll just go with ca... thanks, I'm really not prepared at this time to get into the specifics of my concerns, time constraints dictate that my grandson gets some attention.... but when I can block out some time and elucidate my concerns better, I will direct some of them to you and hope to avail myself of your experience here. thanks for the quick responce. pz edit: ....ditto cw |

cw, most of what you refer to in the tech sense is not understood.... I understand you are trying to relate a security level I should be at ease with and for that I thank you. the tech stuff.......... I live in alaska, I only have access to a phone modem, (slow at that), I barely know what ISP means let alone understand much about it. I guess I didn't do a very good job of explaining how much 'hand-holding' I might require, and I really am unable to assign the time right now. I'll come back when I can spend a little time and hopefully, someone will still have some pity on my lack of savy in the tech dept. for now thanks to ca and cw |

If this is indeed true, then what would be your problem crunching for BOINC/SETI? You're "linked up" just by being in these message boards. I'm am not paranoid whatsoever about my PC being "linked up". I have installed security measures which renders it invisible on the Internet. Tutoring someone, in these message boards, would, in my opinion, be "counter productive". But, just chatting with people here could also be considered counter productive. I doubt that anyone would want to come here just to spend all their time teaching another. People come out here to chat with others and to get help. Oh, by the way, this board is in fact not for the purpose of getting help with BOINC/SETI. The "Questions and Problems" board is the proper place for that. So, the post to me was in fact false. You have NOT crunched for SETI. My suspicions were quite well founded. For help, go to the "Questions and Problems" boards....
