Personal background
Hey there!

There probably isn't much I could write about myself here - I'm not the most interesting person in the world (of course, who is), and much of what I COULD write would probably not be considered appropriate content here.

So I'll just say that I've been a SETI@home user for a long time, since mid-1999; I used to be inactive for a long time but just downloaded and installed BOINC for the first time now right at the end of the third quarter of 2009, and it's fun to contribute again.

One note: my country's listed as "Iceland", but I'm not actually from there; however, during account creation, I was not asked where I was from but rather which country I was running for (or something along those lines), so because I like Iceland quite a bit, I opted for that one. :)

Well, that's about all I can think of for now.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. For fun and profit, as they say - well, mostly for fun, and also for the competitive aspect. Not that I'm really obsessing over it, but seeing how you rank compared to others, both among your friends, in your team and globally, is nice.

2. I think it's an interesting idea, obviously. To be quite honest, I doubt that it'll ever find anything, and if it does, I doubt it'll have any practical applications (any potential alien civilizations are going to be far, far too far away from us to be reachable - they'd die out before we got there, and we'd die out before they got here), but hey, that shouldn't stop us from trying, right? FWIW, I *do* believe that there's alien life as well (maybe even alien intelligence and/or civilizations), but I also think that we shouldn't forget that we're not alone on our own planet, either.

3. One suggestion: make it more obvious why the "credit claimed" and "credit granted" vary occasionally (sometimes by just a little bit, sometimes significantly). It does seem a bit strange to me that my client would think it deserves a certain amount of credit but that the server disagrees, at least as long as both are free of bugs.
