Personal background
Im an Atlanta, Ga native, currently squirming my way through college. I have worked as a computer techie for the past 6 years, as well as being an all around geek. I tend to stay away from reading books, and read news and other articles instead. I am a product of generation Y, the generation that demands instantaneous results without any input whatsoever.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
In my search for finding a use for the computers that I have access to, I found seti. My first experience with seti was with my highschool's computer network, from which my friends and i maintained a network of about 100 500Mhz computers that ran seti about 70% of the time. We had a good amount of down time because the network admins constantly shut down the seti daemon whenever they could find it. Now, I simply run it on my 6 home pc's. I have a strong feeling, however, that seti will soon be running on the 35 office pc's that I and another friend manage. Seti, for me, is more of an answer to a search for proper usage of processing power than anything else. I feel it is a shame that so many people do not nearly utilize the potential that their pc's contain. Besides, its just cool to watch my stats!
