Personal background
I am a 51 year old married to a lovely wife and have three children. We all live in Alamogordo, New Mexico, a city rich in space history. I'm an amateur astronomer and have been for roughly 35 years and currently author a website on the subject. I am retired from the Air Force.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I firmly believe we are not alone in the universe. The biggest problem we face is the extreme distances involved and how slow the speed of light is in relation to the distances within our own Milky Way Galaxy and the Universe as a whole.

It takes some 100,000 years for a lightwave to transverse our galaxy. Earth has been transmitting radio energy into space for over 50 years (a small fraction within our galaxy and an even a smaller fraction of the universe as a whole).
