Seti@hom Enhanced is not available for your type of computer ??
(Message 786095)
Posted 24 Jul 2008 by John Gillett Post: It should start up and start crunching with the optimized worker. I had to give it a little nudge with a Retry comm, but it then took off and gobbled up 8 tasks immediately to work on. We'll see how my RAC does. Dual G5 2GHz. Thanks for the app and great instructions! |

(Message 785553)
Posted 23 Jul 2008 by John Gillett Post: The project is funded by very little money from private donations. Everything SETI@Home does is essentially new terroritory as there is nothing else out there like SETI@Home (running as long or with as many participants or with the sheer scope of the project). There will be ups and downs as things are discovered and tested. With all due respect, I do understand. Otherwise I wouldn't have hung in here for over 9 years contributing my time, machines, and yes, even cash, to this project. My post said nothing about leaving, but simply expressed disappointment about the way things have been going for some time (IMHO). However, if the project (or moderator(s)) no longer wants my contributions just say so, and I will, regretfully, take them elsewhere. |

Posted 22 Jul 2008 by John Gillett Post: FWIW, none of my Macs are asking for additional work. Once the error shows up it's all over. Both Tiger and Leopard. To be quite honest, this is very disappointing. With all the recent server problems, which have dropped my RAC by >1,000 (although it's very slowly coming back up), and now this, I have some major concerns about SETI in the long run. As you can see from my stats, I've been around for a while, and I'm not happy with the outlook. |

Posted 21 Jul 2007 by John Gillett Post: Thanks, Dena. Unfortunately (in this case) my CPU performance has always been set at Highest, so no help there. The Widget is cool (showing 94% nice!). CPU temps are 124F and 117F. However, right now my A/C is being replaced, so the house is HOT and those temps are not normal. Any other ideas appreciated. |

Posted 21 Jul 2007 by John Gillett Post: I agree that 522 needs some additional tweaks. My dual G5 is running ~95% each CPU, and of that 97% is 'nice' time! No wonder these WUs are taking longer to run. How 'bout giving control of nice back to us as we used to be able to do (long ago). Yes, granted, it's running, but it still ain't right... |

Posted 20 Jul 2007 by John Gillett Post: Looks like 522 has fixed the problem (he said, gritting his teeth). I reset the project and 522 came down and started processing with no error messages as before (but some huge completion times!). However, it did not pull any additional ready to start files. This particular machine is a dual G5, and all it got was the 2 files to run. We'll see how it goes. |
