Richard,
After several days of trying to merge the app_info file you posted with the app_info file generated by Lunatics' installer, I still need more help. How do I merge these two files, so seti will also work on the intel gpu? seti beta is working fine on both of my intel gpu's. BTW, the machines also have two GTX690's running other projects and seti on them. Thanks again, Rick

Hi there,

I am using the lunatics optimised apps at the moment (mostly due to an incompatibility between the standard nvidia apps and my GTX660).

Just wondering if anyone can suggest an app_info.xml snippet to enable work fetch of Intel GPU work units on an anonymous platform.
I expect I will have to download the application manually too.

I have added <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> to my cc_config.xml file and the BOINC client shows that it has detected the Intel GPU
OpenCL CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz (OpenCL driver vendor: Intel(R) Corporation, driver version 3.0.1.10878, device version OpenCL 1.2 (Build 76413))
My project settings allow all GPU types.

I will be interested to see if the project favours one type of GPU for processing or if it keeps work queued for all available GPUs.

Regards,
Daniel

I have the same situation of using lunatic's optimized app for seti. Does anyone know how/what to add to the app_info file to get seti to run on my intel gpu's?
Thanks in advance,
Rick

Thanks Richard! Your advice to find the correct app name, was spot on. I tried dozens of variations of what I thought was the correct name, and couldn't get it right (the app name turned out to be, "test"). I've now got Donate@Home running, and also applied my new knowledge to Milkyway@Home. After a day or so of testing, I'll spread it to the rest of my machines. A BIG thank you to Richard, Claggy, Fred, and Jord for teaching a VERY old guy, a new trick. Regards, Rick

I appreciate the help from all of you. Unfortunately, I'm finding the app_config just as frustrating to use as the app_info file. I did my programming in the 1980's using FORTRAN and IBM JCL, just didn't keep up with the programming language changes. I cheated getting an app_info file for SETI using Lunatic's installer, and modified it to run 2 apps/core. Einstein has a place in preferences to run more than one (I'm using 3/core). Now I'm experimenting with the app_config to do the same for Donate@Home. Hardly anyone reads the forum posts there, so Fred, Claggy, or Jord, would you be willing to help me get an app_config for Donate@Home to work? I realize this is not really the place for this post, but would go anywhere, anyway needed for your help. Thanks in Advance, Rick

Thanks Jord & Claggy. I thought it was a client based option. Now that I know, I'll try this out. Thanks again. Rick

Fred,
I installed .56 yesterday, and have spent the day trying to figure out how to run multiple instances on my GPU's without using an anonymous platform. I can't find the secret. Could you clue me in? Regards, Rick

Oh My God! Running TCP Optimizer, clicking on Custom, then clicking Window Scaling AND Timestamps, made my SETI downloads fly! After weeks of clicking and reclicking the "retry Now" button on BOINC, to try and get some SETI work for my hungry machines, this worked wonders for me. Don't know how to pass this on, but if someone knows how, please let the SETI world know. Thanks to everyone who figured this out. Regards, Rick

Thanks for the advice Cliff, Tim, and Claggy. I had already chosen to receive Astropuls wu's, but lacked the courage to install and modify my app_info file. I had cheated, and used Lunatics' installer back when it was still available. The installer gave me Enhanced 6.03 WU's on GPU's and the optimized Astropulse on CPU. After all these years, I can't believe I didn't think of unchecking all but Astropulse, and using the "use other apps when work not available" options to fill my que. Thanks VERY much for your suggestions. I took the plunge and manually installed Lunatic's Astropulse App, and modified the app_info file myself, and it actually worked. I've gotten about 8 AP wu's between my 3 machines with elgible GPU's, and they completed in less than an hour. Now if I could only get more. Thanks again for the help, and keep crunching.
Regards,
Col. Rick A. Sponholz

Yes, I know about Astropulse WU. Unfortunately, don't get but a few per week. Not nearly enough to keep all my cores busy. Regards, Rick

Can't remember ever reading about this on the forums, and couldn't find it through forum search either. GPUGRID has two different ques, one Short, and one Long. The Long que is for high end machines, and still require 8-12 hours to complete each wu. I remember in the old days, it would take days to complete a SETI wu. Now it takes about 3 minutes. I understand keeping wu small, so everyone can crunch. My very old, baby PC (263MHz & 128MB RAM) still takes over 200 hours to crunch, and I thank SETI for continuing to feed him. But, my new machines could really use bigger bites (pun intended:) At GPUGRID's preference page, you can select short, long, or both. Has SETI@Home ever considered a second que? Regards, Rick

I would leave my phone plugged in while home, AND dedicate any old phones after an upgrade (every 2 yrs or so) to crunching just like I do my otherwise outdated PC's. Rick

13 June 1999 for me (26,071 original SETI Classic workunits). One of my original 263MHz computers is still contributing. I hope us oldtimers (and you newer folk) will be around for a long time. Rick

Could someone please supply me with the appropriate AP505 SSE (NOT SSE3) app_info example? I am a novice app_info user and used Lunatics' unified installer originally, and have downloaded the new AP optimized app (I do not have access to their updated unified installer). I desire to get AP work units again.

I have a fiber optic DSL line with AT&T, and when it's up, it works very well. I keep BOINC connected 24/7, so my completed work units upload as soon as they're completed (as long as AT&T is working) Rick

I'm not sure who your ISP is, but mine is AT&T and VERY unreliable. I can go days with no service at all, while I wait for network to come up, or for a repairman to show up. Now add Seti's well documented server problems and you get an idea why I keep a 10 day cach. You get your credit, just not instantly.

My proccessing power has grown over the years. I now crunch with 4 quads (2.4-2.83Ghz), 3 duals (2.0-2.4Ghz), 3 singles (1.0-1.2Ghz), and my favorate (also oldest); a 263Mhz Sony VAIO notebook. It still keeps on crunching SETI workunits 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Every little bit helps. Rick
