Happy Caturday! It's warm here in Reno. 26 f with a high of 48 expected. We will even see the sun today. No earthquakes to report, but we do have some snow on the cars.

Enjoy the burritos or whatever you're planning to eat this morning.

They are El Monterey brand, have very little gluten, and are easy to heat up, plus I know how many calories each is or should be and I can tolerate them, I bought 8 pkgs too many.

I don't feel like standing much these days as it is hard on my knees.

@ Julie, thanks.

At least I'm not losing my hair, when I'm 64. Which is a few months off still.

I just have to go to the store, get a refund, buy some bleach for washing clothes with, and go to the bank to deposit $39 there.

The car battery won't be ready until 12:45am @ 12 amps [...]
This is exactly how I imagined charging at home. Charging begins to determine the timing of everyday life.

You probably won't believe it... I had to google what “Burritos” were. Looks tasty; we don't have them. Bon appétit, Vic.

I've returned to a wild and wet Food Desert... And there's been some slippage... And some squirming and discussions with that. Hopefully we can have a rapid recovery.

Unfortunately, I'm going to be stuck here longer than intended or wished for.

At least I have some help for the time being.

And additional equipment is already on its way...

By it's blustery wet out there! Katrina lingers on yet...

Thanks Scrooge McDuck.

I also have Chimichangas, my fridges freezer is FULL with beef and bean, beef and bean and cheese, and 1 in bean and cheese, yes they are yummy, some that I don't buy have red chilies and Jalapenos, I can eat the red, but I'll pay for it later, as to Jalapenos I won't buy those, my nephew would eat those raw, he has a cast iron stomach. I normally like green chili and beef and bean, but the market had none available.

At 240v the car can do 15 amps, I still have another $240 or so in parts before I can use bonded 240v with some local help, though I'll still need an electrician for a 120v circuit for the window a/c unit, I wish Chevy had a 6.6kw charger for my car, sigh. Until I get the new circuit, I could run the a/c or the 2nd 120v circuit for the car.

Eventually I plan to replace my charging cable with a name brand unit that can be set for 15 amps, cause the one that I have now defaults to 8 amps and to get 12 amps I have to plug the cable into the car, then get back in the car and select 12 amps from a menu, yesterday I wanted to go to the market, but the car said 32 miles, I might have made the trip there, but I'd have to have spent $2.40 or so for 5kw of electricity at a DC Fast/Quick Charger which charges at a max rate of 50kw @ 400v DC to get home, so I decided to wait.

Add onto that yet more bits falling off Boeing aircraft...

Meanwhile over here we have a beautiful sunny day and an enchanting mild breeze. Feels like summertime.

... And my first fall into the food desert has been a fast-food veggie bun and then later a pizza... Not doing too well for good eating so far... At least no greasy fish 'n' chips... So far...

The next surprising detail, at least for me... as I thought America is the land of extensive, cheap energy...
I might have made the trip there, but I'd have to have spent $2.40 or so for 5kw of electricity at a DC Fast/Quick Charger which charges at a max rate of 50kw @ 400v DC to get home, so I decided to wait.
$2.40 for 5 kWh means $0.48/kWh = €0.44/kWh. In Germany we currently pay retail prices of €0.30 ... €0.40/kWh for households (12 month contracts). But as soon as you charge your BEV at a public DC Fast/Quick Charger you are faced with prices of €0.60... up to €1.00/kWh. Not to forget an intransparent mess of tariffs (small medium and large charge contracts), with differing monthly basic fees, differing volume fees, different roaming fees at third-party chargers, time surcharges... similar to the mess of mobile phone contracts until 10...15 years ago.

Then there's the simple truth of the Diesel price: One litre (1 gal = 4.55 l, 1 l = 0.22 gal) Diesel fuel contains 10.4 kWh energy (heating value). Current price now (here in DE): €1.75 per litre ($8.59/gal). In simple terms, this is €0.17/kWh of (thermal) energy.

Vehicle efficiencies: (BEV: 75%, Diesel: 45%, hybrid: 30%, fuel cell: 30%, petrol: 20%, E-fuels: 15%) (source: statista.com... paywall)

Even if a BEV is twice as efficient than a modern Diesel car, it's more expensive to fast charge the BEV. That's even true with high German fuel prices. There's nothing wrong with BEVs. But it seems we have a major problem with our electricity prices.

Thanks for some very interesting numbers...

Meanwhile... Ongoing in the Food Desert...

The pleasant sunshine has been obliterated by a dark grey gloaming, as a sticky wet cloak of mist and drizzle rolled in to smother the area. We're now into a damp chilly. Outside AND in!

And today has been a tedious day preparing to get the main job done... This is day two and we've still not got into the main task... One long too old lump of equipment has been ejected. Still to get into the second...

Curiously, our mere presence here has catalysed remarkable improvements to "The Numbers". Strange that?...

A good hot brew is a very good excuse for pause-for-thought for the step...

Already all rather exhausting...

All good fun?

(Zero chance of seeing anything of any eclipse from here!)

Here 87 octane gasoline is about $4.99 a gallon, not cheap.
With an EV everything the EV battery has can be 100% used to move the car and to power the 12vdc battery and 12v devices, some like the Mustang Mach-E have no 12v battery and rely on a DC to DC converter instead, ICE is lousy at chemical to electric conversion with most of the process becoming wasted heat, but then no one wants a melted engine block as that would be bad. It would be nice if all EV's had heat pumps, some EV's do, mine doesn't. :(

Still I like the raw acceleration an EV gives, 0-60 in 7.2 seconds in the Spark EV, 327lbs torque in the 2015-2016 Spark EV, the Bolt EV/EUV has 266lbs, the 2014 Spark EV has 400lbs, the Mach-e has 634lbs... I won't go back. Charging via AC @ home is about $0.15kwh, mostly I don't notice it, I just pay it, 381-446kwh since December, in November there was no EV here and the electricity was 602kwh since the 2.5 ton gas furnace was being used. Soon my kwh will almost double cause of the 15,100 btu window a/c, it gets hot out here for 3-4 months a year.

Hah... many years ago I got into the habit of sprinting at traffic lights against the car next to me at some downtown intersections---with my bicycle. As soon as the green light... completely across the intersection. With a light sports bike and good derailleur gears, you can easily beat any car with a manual transmission. You have to fight against those with automatic transmission (still rare in Europe). But when I "challenged" the first Tesla few years ago.... what a humiliating experience.

I did that with a 10 speed bicycle that I built when I was 17, it would do 45 mph, acceleration wasn't as fast as a car, but since the speed limit was 45 I could keep up.

Yeah EV's can move, very quickly too, about the only ICE vehicles that have any hope of keeping up are the big bore Suzuki's and Kawasaki's and such, been there, done that.

These 2 Chevy Spark EV 15x6" wheels are here, grade C wheels at that which came in recently, not as good looking as I'd hoped, but as long as they work.
Manual transmissions are going the way of the dinos I read, for new cars that is.

Frontier Fiber is coming to parts of Yermo CA and to Daggett CA and to Newberry Springs CA in a cpuc.ca filing that I found online, the prospect of lower cost internet that can be streamed with is interesting, hopefully it will come here, I need more fiber.

As long as it's gluten free and lactose free, yeah, but since most isn't here, I do the best that I can.

I did some astronomy earlier today. I live close to the path of Totally but not quite 100%. I got to see a very slim crescent left before going back to full blazing sun. Cloud cover was some high wispy clouds so I had a fairly good view.
