What a couple of days!

So...

The inspection went all good and smooth. Phew.

As for the paperwork... What a comedy of errors!! Just the one inspector came back for this afternoon, somewhat flustered, to get the rest of the details and check through the codes... Except... Some of the check codes didn't work for their checklist app on their super-slow oversized laptop... Hence we get a further visit to finish off... In about 3 month's time!!!

So much for that crew of comedy!

To be fair, those doing the inspection/tests were nicely thorough, and very professional, as they should be. The inspector who was left behind, abandoned, to check through the paperwork was so rushed and flustered that there was far too much haste causing too many hiccups and confusions... Almost like some surreal Laurel and Hardy sketch but speeded up. There's various confusion there that requires more fixing... Hey ho!

That brought to mind a grumpy comment heard over the weekend, not too far away from the group:

"Not my circus. Not my monkeys!"

Is that why the giggly Minions like bananas?...


Now recovering with a good ground coffee brew! Still yet to find a decent sized coffee mug over here.

Get out of taxi and walk into reception and watch the panic. Then head to the seat of the biggest panic (all too often it was the coffee machine that chose my arrival to prompt its failure).

Kung Pao time here. Got the wonk out and it's hot.

After 34.5mm overnight there is certainly no need to water the veggies today, but I did have to drain my IBC's again, and I did get another quick trip into town done this morning and after a few beers I'm ready for lunch on this cool and overcast day.

We're now at 24C (feels like 22C) here after a 19C (felt like 18C) start with 25C being our target for today after what was left of Cyclone Kirrily passed overhead.

I've lived here in the park since Nov 2006, once a certificate of habitation was issued by the County(this is in regards to a building permit I'd paid for in late 2006), no one has wanted in here since, in 2006 they wanted to see the foundation and the flexible gas and water and electrical hookups.

Right now I'm hoping some paperwork that I sent in for a small grant yields maybe $410, then I can buy an 8 gallon point of use electric water heater for $192, and put $218 into the balance owed on my car which is currently $9,562.14 and I've made 2 payments, plus my credit score is going up.

So far they have been quiet, I did email them, but they are most likely very busy, and I have not received any mail saying nothing is coming, so I wait, I just wish they'd hurry up.

Ah, yes, but ... when I say demanded entrance, well, the inspector carries a badge, firearm and handcuffs. Yes, this is a very serious legislatively mandated surprise inspection. Of course the bowels are where the paperwork is most frequently being updated as the process progresses and where errors are likely. Once satisfied the operators were not idiots then the checking of the equipment conditions and the general office paperwork would commence.

Once we had a green inspector who said you are in violation, every page of this randomly selected file does not have the case number. The way the regulation is written is that every document has to have the case number. The document in question was notarized and the jurat indicated how many pages were in the document. So page 7 of 15 is part of the document and if page 1 had the case number then all the other sheets don't need it, but they were convinced each sheet of paper was a separate document. A call to the state capitol was required with an internal referral to the agency legal department. It was a teaching experience for the inspector. We never had further issues with this inspector.

After a busy morning I enjoyed a lazy afternoon watching our Aussie girls in their ODI match against South Africa.

Also the mercury here reached 25C (felt like 24C) today which has been a relief after the heatwave we've had to deal with over the last 5 days.

And yes, I've seen one chappy nonchalantly wander in at high noon to make a start, unshaven, with an opened can still in each hand. Ok... So he was walking straight... And ya can't tell any difference between zombied drunk or normal with 'em...

The real difficulty is with the lack of education and the almost anti-education culture...

And the food doesn't help. At the moment I'm encouraging one of 'em to pull back from pushing themselves into type-2 diabetes, and with some surprisingly good success. So that's now two of us seen eating "green things" to much disparagement from the others about rabbit food. There's a third secret green leaves eater who hides the spectacle.

I warned them I have... Indeed I told 'em well about the secrets of the Rabbit Food...

Nice being able to hold up my Judge's badge. Don't need to do it very often. Typically when they hear that I know the codes and laws better than them they back off. I've only once had to pull my badge to get attention and respect.

Brisk 44f here and dry. Got some nice sunrise photos but it looks like another front may be moving in. I have about 2-3 hours of dry weather then rain off and on all day. They still don't have all of the power restored. I had brownouts but never beyond the duration of my battery backup. But 30,000 people are still without power in San Francisco and some in Sacramento. The forecast calls for the possibility of snow on the peaks around me. Looks like the front moving in is cold.

All is cool and calm with surprisingly clear views and a beautiful Constable-esq sunset merging into twilight.

And by 'eck that lot were hard work this morning. As if to make up for having done something for the day before. Or were they suffering from celebrations or football or whatever from last night?...

Anyhow, they finally got into gear for an easy latter part of the shift.

Now looking forward to some of my own healthy food and the evening off!

I am below the water level in the river behind my house but the levy is still holding it back. It would need to rise an additional 5 feet before I would have to evacuate. 5 feet is possible but it would require 3 major dams to fail all at the same time. Not likely.

The mercury here reached a muggy and windy 23C (felt like 21C) today and with sunset just 15mins away we're down to 19C (feels like 18C) while 13C is expected in the morning.

While I was watering my wicking tubs I noticed that a couple of flowers had popped up overnight on a 1m row of carrots in my huge wicking tub so it was time to harvest which produced 3.5kg of carrots and thankfully those flowers all came from 1 carrot.

The ground is still so soggy that mowing it is still out of the question and there's more than enough moisture in the ground for the potatoes and pumpkins to require no watering for at least anther day.

My pumpkin patch at this time last year which was cool and dry.

Anyhow that huge wicking tub is again ready for more seeds, but it was far too windy here today to do that, and hopefully I can get a selection in tomorrow if they don't blow away.

No rain in the forecast for the next 10 days. That's good. I need to dry things out. There are puddles everywhere. But it's still cold in our region. Currently 40f and is rising to 53f. The record cold for this day is 36f.
