We've just had our sunshine swept away by monsoon rain... Quite a chilly change in temperature also... All good fun in the wobbly convergence zone! See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

It looks like we'll finally get a sunny day here for a change and as I had a load of cardboard and paper to dispose of I used it to give Robbie the Robot a bit of breakfast to get the temp downstairs up a bit seeing as those solar panels are restricting the shed's solar heating system these days. Anyhow I better get a coffee break in before I head back into the brewroom to get my 2 kits ready for some more brewing action, another lager brew along with a ginger beer brew this time (just for a change). Cheers. |

Well that's 1 kit done, 1 soaking and 2 drains cleared in readiness for tomorrow. I feel like a beer now, but I'll have a coffee instead as it's still a bit early for the other. Cheers. |

... Damnable chauvinistic builder's stupidity trying to pull a "fast one" just because we have a female project manager... Going off-spec and then lying that they have no need to follow any plans!!... Further lies that what they have wrongly done is better than the architect's drawings!!!... Incredibly crass. Obviously this engineer strongly disagrees... And to be sorting out the fallout at this time of morning!!!? And to be wasting yet more time to show why what has been wrongly done makes no sense... And is very much not wanted... This really does add to the very bad reputation of the general building industry on all levels... All because the chauvinist dolts do not recognize or respect women... Myself and another (male) engineer are most likely adding our silent but very intimidating presence for her at the next meeting. I'll be wearing my special boots. How can we get better education?... After a busy day catching up on things I've had enough so I'm going to rest for what is left of it. Cheers. |

Well... well... well... What a complete turnaround. We had a very respectful mid-morning meeting. Us three (male) engineers had no need to say a word. We weren't even included in any greetings and remained in the background. There was only the one lone woman amongst men. And... That was all very easy! There was no attempt, not even any hint, of the fob-offs of the previous day. She had a small concession sweetener in that one minor part of the incorrectly done work does, as it happens, fit ok. The rest is a take-down-redo. All of which was accepted totally without adverse comment. Actually politely accepted in a matter-of-fact way. All very good and short and sweet. Total stupidity for the wasted time. Those actually doing the work appear never to even see any drawings or specs. Hence they had just rushed ahead doing whatever they had done for their previous job... They have the one manager that is "The Brains"... The rest was silly old shirking... But with added chauvinism for a few fob-offs... Better education needed... See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

Reading your last couple of posts..... It is very dangerous to upset a female project manager if one is contracted to do a job. They have ways unknown to men that allow them to spot attempts at pulling wool over their eyes, indeed such ways may lead the contractor into a state where they think they've got away with it. The suddenly the claws come out, a few well chosen words in the right meeting and the contractor wishes that the floor would open up and they would descend into the basement from the 32nd floor without the aid of a lift, stairs or parachute..... And the female project manager is still talking calmly with a "butter wouldn't melt in my mouth" look on her face, until that moment "her side" have been waiting for....... I've seen this in action a couple of times, and have been so glad to be in the engineering team lurking behind her in the shadows and not being shredded by her quiet voice. And thinking "How the heck did she manage that" and "Thank goodness she's on our side". Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |
