I can't RED X anything 'cause my RAC is at 0 aka ZERO.

When the servers were shut down everyone's RAC went into free-fall for a few days. If your initial RAC was near zero it ended up at zero, if it was high it was reduced by a couple of orders of magnitude before someone hit the "stop playing about with RAC" button.
As to the red-x, it is out of control of the mods and is still visible on my phone but is ever so tiny - what type device are you using?

I Use my Desktop and Full Size Keyboard for Posting.

I have three Tablets I use sometimes to Read Posts. While watching TV; Layin' in Bed. Not into Tiny Keyboard to post.

For Years after Crunching Stopped I had RAC of 49 or .49. Then it went to ZERO.

If I Can Post with ZERO RAC I should be able to RED X with ZERO RAC.

You've got to the page where you can make a report, so fill in the form, hit the "OK" button, and the report is sent to all the moderators, who will then look at the post and assess it to see if it does break forum rules.
(btw - that page sometimes goes painfully slowly)

I know that if you are not logged in it does not show up, likely anti-spam. I'm guessing if you are banished it also may not show up. Someone said if your RAC was zero it didn't show up and the old code prevented posting with a zero RAC. Perhaps a zero RAC check wasn't changed into a total credit >0 check.

I think all of us who have RAC >= 0.5 get to that report page. I suspect that the change to total credit > 0 didn't make it into the red x logic flow as it did in the posting flow logic. Drop a note to Dr. A

Thanks Sarge, I was just about to start a thread to chase-up the red-x problem that has been noticed by one user.
I've contacted another zero-RAC user to try the red-x in another area of the boards, we need to see if problem only hits one user in one area of the boards or is more general.
Either way round it needs to be resolved, but while the actual resolution is out of the moderators hands we (I) will do our best to prod those who can to sort it.

Yep

There are folks with less credit that have successfully used the red-x recently, so your problem is almost certainly down to the RAC, which makes things a little easier to find where the problem actually lies.

My understanding of the situation is:

All the credit values (host, team, total, RAC) are updated together when a "credit event" happens. That's usually when a finished task is validated, or an old task is timed out. That's common across all BOINC servers.

Back when the 'big sleep' started, they first turned off the work supply, but they left the active servers running for a while, and "credit events" continued as normal.

But something else happened in, I think, June 2020. Credit events stopped happening, and I think they had a major re-organisation of the farm - probably to reduce the amount of rack space rental they have to pay. But I think they botched it, especially where the scheduler is concerned. Ever since then, I've been getting

When they designated a different machine to be the server (*), they failed to copy all the necessary files. It's never worked since. No more credit events: our final scores are fossilised for ever.

As for the low score limits: I think I agree with the theory that the configuration was tweaked after closedown to allow continued posting with zero RAC, but nobody thought of tweaking the red-x in the same way. More than a year after the event, it's probably too late to fix it now.

(*) The current scheduler is centurion-10g, not synergy as still stated on the server status page.

Thanks Richard - That gets a "Grrr" from me, along with "Oh dear, not really surprising" and "disappointing". I'm sure those affected will agree with one or more of my statements.

I've had a couple of other folks with zero credit try and red-x posts and, while it may be of no comfort to you, you are not alone in that the red-x system doesn't work for any of them. To put it politely the red-x system is "borked for those with zero RAC".

All that aside, thanks for letting us know, now we can either get it sorted properly or think about a sensible work around. Without your reporting and subsequent help we would still be assuming that the red-x system was working for everyone.

On the other hand, those who still have perma-RAC won't be losing any more. So we should still have people around who can report the most egregious outbreaks of spam.

And so far as I know, the PM system should still be available. Or should we check that (with and without RAC) too?

I agree, but sometimes they do get missed.
The PM system is working for those with zero RAC (or at least it was an hour ago....)
