The Guardian........
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Guardian
The paper's readership is generally on the mainstream left of British political opinion,[8][9] and its reputation as a platform for liberal and left-wing editorial has led to the use of the "Guardian reader" and "Guardianista" as often-pejorative epithets for those of left-leaning or "politically correct" tendencies.

.......no radical Left axe to grind there................not.

Does everything have to be political and be blinded by political extremism?

The Guardian is a very long long way away from politically 'extreme' or 'radical'.

The Guardian has a strong advantage for being supported by a well funded charity that is independent from the constraints and bias of advertisers and such as Rupert Murdoch...

That independence allows for far clearer news and views of the world around us.

... Meanwhile he's gone quiet on his so called "wonder drug".

Trump stops hyping hydroxychloroquine after study shows no benefit. wrote:
... The malaria drug showed no benefit in a relatively large trial of its use at US veterans hospitals. An analysis showed that nearly a third of veterans at US military hospitals died when treated with hydroxychloroquine, a greater fraction than patients who received standard treatment.

“These findings highlight the importance of awaiting the results of ongoing prospective, randomized, controlled studies before widespread adoption of these drugs,” researchers wrote...

Phew! That is totally damning...

Sounds to me like 'anecdotal' tales of woe...........and from the all doubters POV, what percentage of those "third of veterans at US military hospitals" had pre-diagnosed terminal comorbidity?

Always something left out that doesn't quite fit the narrative. That's called fake news by omission.

Yes, indeed so.

So, what is the real background and context?

My personal suspicions are that Trump blindly jumped on anything of the day some days ago that could distract from 'bad news' or otherwise hype up his own position in some way. The now totally discredited hydroxychloroquine study rushed publication was the big 'it' for that day... That now looks to be to deadly results.

Are there any credible studies to show that hydroxychloroquine really is useful against the Cov-SARS-2 virus?

And despite the well known deadly side effects? For which some of those side effects (heart arrhythmia/failure and organ failure) are known to worsen some the very symptoms that are suffered with severe COVID-19?

This is all with peoples' lives.

All in our only one deadly greedy world,
Martin

It is any surprise that King Donald voters are more likely to be criminal?
https://news.yahoo.com/video/yahoo-news-yougov-poll-trump-133749842.html
Voters who cast their ballots for Donald Trump in 2016 are more likely than voters who cast their ballots for Hillary Clinton to say that they have “cheated” on social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic — and much less likely to say they will continue to obey their state’s lockdown order as long as it’s in effect.

Not much of a list there, but when you compare Presidency of Barack Obama to that of The Dictatorship of v2.0 it's just like comparing light of the sun to the darkness down a mile deep hole in the ground.

Oh. Trump has accomplished all that. Just by signing a bill.
Well give us the list of ALL the previous US president bills so we can compare.
And how many of them are fulfilled by anyone?

Less than a year has passed since Donald Trump launched an unsuccessful attempt to buy off Greenland. The US is now expected to announce a comprehensive support package for the Arctic island, the AP writes. A message that provokes anger in Denmark.
- This is an attempt to bribe the Greenlandic population, says Danish MP Karsten Hönge.
Greenland is of great strategic importance to the US military, including the country's ballistic warning system. A US acquisition of the island would also balance Russia's and China's military and commercial armaments in the Arctic, Reuters writes.

FACTS: GREENLAND
Greenland is the world's largest island, with a population of about 56,000 inhabitants. Around 80 percent of the land area is covered by ice and the ice-free area is slightly smaller than Sweden's surface.
Greenland has been a Danish colony since 1814. In 1953, Greenland's status changed from colony to Danish county and in 1979 the Greenlanders gained autonomy.
This means that the Danish queen is head of state and that the Danish government is responsible for, among other things, foreign and defense policy, the judicial system and the administration of natural resources.
In 2009, self-government was expanded. Greenland was granted ownership of its natural resources in the land, with the proviso that if the profits became large, the Danish aid would decrease to a corresponding degree.
Denmark's annual contribution corresponds to about half of Greenland's budget. The most important source of income in addition to the money from Denmark is fishing.
According to opinion polls, the Greenlanders themselves would like to have independence, but not at the price of poorer living standards.

Meanwhile, all in with the politics of gaining votes for coal:

Trump Administration Courageously Ignores the Benefits of Reducing Toxic Mercury Emissions
wrote:
Humans have long known the health dangers of mercury, but that won’t stop the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from doing away with regulations designed to reduce emissions and protect public health. The agency released an update on Thursday that undermines a key rule to lower mercury emissions from coal plants...

... Not only do people breathe this toxic junk in. Mercury can also wind up in land, water, and ultimately the fish on our dinner table. Eating fish and shellfish is the main exposure to mercury, according to the EPA. However, the new analysis doesn’t take into account the full health benefits of decreased mercury emissions. What’s more, the EPA also doesn’t include barely any of the co-benefits, such as the reductions in other air pollutants that occur alongside mercury...

... Andrew Wheeler, the former coal lobbyist who now runs the EPA, is dead set on ignoring that evidence. And Trump is gonna Trump. Not even a global health crisis will stop this man from trying to harm even more people.

I can't help thinking: God help America & the world if this bozo gets elected for another 4 years!
"And then I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute," he said. "And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning?
"Because you see it gets in the lungs and does a tremendous number on them, so it'd be interesting to check that," he said.

Anti-Science crap again of course. How Trumpish. Trump is God for the uneducated base.
Is there no end to the craziness of the brainwashed Trump base?
You have obviously no idea, how bad this is going to end for the Trump base.
When you say adieu to Science, you're on your way to the dark ages.

They are waiting for the apocalypse and doing everything in their power to hasten its arrival, so they can say, "I told you so!"

Uneducated is correct. When they got their vouchers to send their children to their madrasas to indoctrinate them in the lies of the holey book and prevent them from the true knowledge of science it set the USA on the course for destruction.

Still in disbelief at Trump's deadly dangerous comments about how to use disinfectants and heat and light in people!

(Obviously stupidly bad. I hope no one is so silly to try that!...)

Further comments brought over here to avoid polluting the Corona virus thread.

Two notes:

Trump speaks at level of 8-year-old, new analysis finds

Will International Courts Investigate Pro-Trump Media?
wrote:
Journalists who amplify the president’s most divisive rhetoric should consult history—and perhaps a lawyer.

And my humble personal observation of his presentation about disinfectants, heat, and light:

I'm no psychologist but I think Trump shows very clear signs of:

  • aphasia;
  • not being aware of the descriptions he is talking about;
  • having to fall back on using rote phrases to bluff past his unawareness;
  • automatically going onto a bullying offensive to bluff out of any question that is a challenge.

Most striking is that he really does seem to be unaware of the people around him, and so he feels he has to overemphasize that he knows everyone really really well, but he also has to emphasize that he is still a god genius that they all must look up to...

Does that describe a senile despotic?

BBC Live 21:54
The US state of Maryland has sent out an emergency alert after receiving more than 100 calls to the state's emergency hotline about the use of disinfectant related to the coronavirus.
“We have received several calls regarding questions about disinfectant use and Covid-19,” the state's emergency agency wrote on Twitter. "This is a reminder that under no circumstances should any disinfectant product be administered into the body through injection, ingestion or any other route.”
The suggestion from President Trump that disinfectant could be used inside the body to treat the virus has been rejected extensively by scientists and medical experts. Trump later defended his comments, saying they were "sarcastic".
Maryland has 16,616 confirmed cases to date, with 798 deaths.

Love to hear that comments.
Trump do tremendous speeches to the public...
But what is more scary is of course that so many in the US believe it's true what he's saying.
