I was really shocked when I caught this in the Windows 10 version of BOINC Manager:

SETI@Home - running (1 CPU + 1 NVIDIA GPU) - Elapsed Time (00:37:12) - Remaining (estimated) (4d 06:28:07). Now granted it has a deadline of Sept. 9th, but still...

SETI is taking a 4+ days ride through my RTX 2060 processor? Until now, every SETI task that has a "1 CPU + 1 NVIDIA GPU" label has been extremely short, 3-6 minutes. Anybody have an explanation?

You may have a stuck thread there, have you tried restarting BOINC?

Cheers.

I just restarted BOINC and also ran Task Manager in Windows to find out and verify that while BOINC is running (all threads with 100% utilization) and it is still at 4.00 Ghz CPU speed, boosted from a 3.47 Ghz normal.

As usual, the app tasks running have changed while doing this, so I can't say whether or not it is fixed. Only time will tell.

I just had a look at your completed CPU tasks and the difference between run time and CPU time is showing that your CPU is overcommitted and this is likely the cause of that stuck GPU task (not enough CPU resources to support it properly). Reducing the number of CPU tasks being done by 1 and those CPU task run/CPUtimes should close up to within a few minutes and not the 20-30mins that you're getting now (100% CPU loading should be avoided).

Cheers.

Once again, pardon my ignorance, but just how do I "reduce the number of CPU tasks by 1"?

And how, or more correctly why should I avoid 100% CPU loading?

In the Advance View of BOINC go to Options/Computing preferences you will find "Use at most [space] % of CPUs", put in 90% into that space and see if that will get you off that 100% load mark and if it doesn't then change it again to 85% and then 80% until you are. BOINC will by default use 100% of CPU resources, but that will leave you nothing in reserve for your O.S., antivirus and other programs that you may use and this is what causes an overcommitted CPU.

Cheers.

Ok. Thanks Wiggo. I'll give it a day or so and I'll let you know how it works out.
