Does anyone use a hosts file with Linux, just curious... |

I do mostly for the local network hosts for their common names visible via Samba. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Ok I know I've seen it around here somewhere before, but I just can't find it, I just had my 1st aborted AP on the 2500K's GPU's due to not having the OpenCL component of the drivers installed so if someone could post a repeat on what is needed to correct this it would be much appreciated by me. I'm also sorry about not having the time yet to try out some other fixes in other directions yet that some have provided, but if nothing comes out of the blue tomorrow I will get to them then (or the weekend at the latest). Cheers. |

Hi Wiggo, It is always smart to check before you start BOINC up to see whether the CUDA and OpenCL components are installed. A quick and easy method is to install clinfo, a command line entry that shows both the CUDA and OpenCL driver components. You can install it with: sudo apt install clinfo To get the OpenCL components installed run this: sudo apt install ocl-icd-libopencl1 Install the OpenCL drivers and then run clinfo in the Terminal to show the printout of the CUDA drivers at the top of the output and OpenCL at the very end of the output. [Edit] Just remembered you are running Mint. One of our Team members discovered that the normal method for installing OpenCL for Ubuntu doesn't work for Mint. Mr. Kevvy reports that on Mint, the aforementioned solution did not work. He used the Mint repository to install Nvidia-libopencl1-304 and was able to process AP tasks afterwards. This is the method to install OpenCL in Mint: sudo apt install Nvidia-libopencl1-304 Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Thank's Keith, I'll get to that when I can get the time to cover the other stuff. Yep there have been some big changes between Mint 18.1 and 19.1, so what was easy before isn't now. Cheers. |

sudo apt install Nvidia-libopencl1-304 Sorry Keith, but this did not work, though this did. sudo apt install ocl-icd-libopencl1 Anyhow, if nothing turns up in the morning I'll try sorting out that other problem. Cheers. |

Did you try a reboot? Your host info is reporting openCL support now. Seti@Home classic workunits: 29,492 CPU time: 134,419 hours |

The best dual 1060 rig in the Top Host list by RAC is sitting in 87th spot with a RAC of 64,551.11 and its Q6600 looks to be just feeding its GPU's (using -nobs) so it's possible that I'll pass that with the help of my CPU doing tasks as well.Doing some early maths this rig should get to a RAC of around 60K, it was down to 26K under Windows at change over with all this Green Bank work about.I ball parked near 80K plus whatever your CPU munches through. Just looked and your RAC on the Linux/2500K is already just 3,000 less than the Windows box..... REALLY smoking along! +1 Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

Hi, Thanks to those saying "a way to GO TBar & petri33 !!" This is what Wiggo's machine is doing now: You can deduce and add some to get the picture what kind of RAC it will produce. -- Petri To overcome Heisenbergs: "You can't always get what you want / but if you try sometimes you just might find / you get what you need." -- Rolling Stones |

As it nears 4.5 days of operation under Linux the 2500K rig's RAC just 1.5K short of what it was when it was last running Win7 and it has made it into the Top 500 by RAC already. Cheers. |

Excellent work Wiggo. I got my 1060 on the special sauce up to 33000 rac and it was still climbing slowly so your with two you should get to 70000 rac sometime soon. Regards |

Well my 2500K is now past the RAC that it had when it was last running Win7 (in under 5 days). Cheers. |

At the 5 day mark the 2500K has not only passed its own Windows RAC it has also overtaken my 3750K's RAC and its now up to 402nd spot on the top host by RAC list while my total RAC is now up by over 16K. :-D A bit of rough maths now projects a RAC of 66,900. Cheers. |

The number 80 on the top SETI crunchers. So you could expect about 75-85K RAC when crunch BLC or a little more when crunch the now rare Arecibo tasks. Congratz |

At the end of 1 week's running (after its rejuvenation) the 2500K's RAC had passed 35,549.75 (35,758.43 now), 488,000 credits (491,923 now) and was up to 217th by RAC. Cheers. |

Well here's an update on my old 2500K rig's progress, RAC has passed 48.3K (best ever before was 48.6K), 721K credits collected and is now in 131st by RAC, while rough maths now projects an eventual RAC around 76K, while my total RAC has now passed 86.5K pushing me up to 121st spot. This lot of Arecibo work has also been welcome to help things along. Cheers. |

I can't remember . . . . . Wiggo did you state you were going to hold off adding the -nobs parameter after your RAC stabilized? Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

I can't remember . . . . . Wiggo did you state you were going to hold off adding the -nobs parameter after your RAC stabilized?Yep, other than changing the checkpoints to 6mins I'll see how the "out of the box" goes first before doing any changes. I must have my baselines set 1st Keith, which is also why my 3570K rig is still on Win7 and waiting for its bits of my early birthday present to myself. ;-) Cheers. |

6 minutes is certainly a long enough checkpoint to avoid stopping a gpu task midstream. You probably could reduce down to 3 minutes which is where I set mine. Doesn't really make any difference for the gpu tasks but the shorter checkpoint would reduce the amount of recalc on the cpu tasks.
