Hi guys. There's a question for all at the end of the post, so if anyone gives a sensible answer, it will be genuinely appreciated.
Due to numerous issues over the past month which came to a boil last weekend, decided to build a new system.
Finally fed up with the limitations of 32bit O/S.

New rig.
Asus ROG Strix B550-F m/b
AMD Ryzen 5500 cpu (6c/12t).
Nvidia GT 1030.
Asus combo DVD/BR drive.
32 gb ram (2x16).
Noctua NH-D15 cpu cooler.
Win 11 Pro.
Toshiba P300 2tb .
Corsair 850w 80+ gold psu.
Logitech KB & mouse.

Have a case I can use & wish to use - Coolermaster R1000 tower. When the psu died on this rig, I had to really search for a psu with a long enough power connectors.
Pretty sure that the Corsair psu power cable won't be long enough so researched some suitable cases. Not easy. :-(
Did find one, however that is just as bad as the coolermasters. Nice, but at £150 with just two more HD bays than the coolermasters,. Other than that not really worth it.
So the question.
Are psu power cable extenders safe to use?

Maybe. The plugs/connectors are always the weakest link even without extensions.
Most are crimped on to the wires...

Then there's this fire hazard:
Melting GeForce RTX 4090 power cables: A timeline of events
The plugs that power Nvidia’s new GeForce RTX cards are melting. Here’s what you need to know.

Updates:
Reports of melting connectors had largely subsided but a spate of melted adapters using third-party CableMod has cropped with the company saying it has received 20 reports with the majority of the problem likely being improperly inserted adapters.
The GeForce owner who sued Nvidia claiming the cards are defective has asked the court to dismiss his suit with prejudice.
While most melted connectors have occurred on the GPU, one Reddit poster is reporting a melted PSU this time.

Thanks Doc, was aware of the melting issues.
Only thought of extenders after seeing this: Corsair cable kit
Got confused slightly.
In the description, it states 75cm long which is more than enough.
However in the Q&A section, one of the answers state 600mm.
That's only 42mm longer than the cable with the psu.

I only realised after ordering all those components that I forgot something - case fans.
I'd already pinched the fans from the other case for this rig when the ones in this rig failed.
Up to this rig when it was built, the most that a system cost me (a complete system) was £650.
With the case fans, the new build is £2 shy of £1k.

I do not intend to rush this build or take any shortcuts.

Generally, it's a case of you get what you pay for.
Good quality ones, not a problem. Cheaper ones, don't be surprised if you end up having issues over time. Really cheap ones, problems are almost inevitable.

And it also depends on the load- running 24/7 at the maximum rated load for that connector, an extender might cause issues due to voltage drop (of course a good one should be using the appropriate conductor & connectors minimising any voltage drop). Only ever running at 75% or less of it's maximum rated load- even a cheapy isn't likely to give problems (unless it's really cheap).

Apple has taken some stick over the years.
However, an iPhone is so easy to connect to a PC & have the PC access photos etc.

The crap one has to go through with Android just for a PC to be able to access the phone is unbelievable.

NVIDIA Reportedly Cans "RTX 4090 Ti," Next-Gen Flagship to Feature 512-bit Memory Bus
That said, the company is reportedly planning more SKUs based on the AD103 and AD106 silicon. The AD103 powers the GeForce RTX 4080, which nearly maxes it out. The AD104 has been maxed out by the RTX 4070 Ti, and there could be a gap between the RTX 4070 Ti and the RTX 4080 that AMD could try to exploit by competitively pricing its RX 7900 series, and certain upcoming SKUs. This creates scope for new SKUs based on cut-down AD103 and the GPU's 256-bit memory bus. The AD106 is nearly maxed out with the RTX 4060 Ti, however there's still room to unlock its last remaining TPC, use faster GDDR6X memory, and attempt to slim the vast gap between the RTX 4060 Ti and the RTX 4070.

Message 2123919 - Posted: 12 Aug 2023, 8:37:23 UTC

After several weeks of one of my computers AIO CPU water coolers making louder & more frequent gurgling noises, i finally got around to replacing it (there were no visible signs of coolant leakage inside the system, but once i had the pump assembly off of the CPU i could see signs of corrosion between the pump assy & the water block- so a very, very, very slow leak).

I ended up getting an EK-Nucleus AIO CR240 Dark unit, and i have to say i'm very happy with it.
Very easy to fit- the back plate & water block mounting were much more straightforward than my existing unit. A couple of bits could have been a bit clearer with their orientation, but i managed to figure them out without too much effort.
And the end result is the CPU temperature is 3-4°c cooler with no change to the pump or fan control settings; and the pump & radiator fans are only running at around 2/3 of their maximum.
$200 well spent IMHO (it would have been better if i didn't have to, but i did, so anyway, it was a very good purchase).

It's a shame Seti isn't still running.
This system would have pumped out up some pretty impressive numbers of Tasks.

German system builder Mifcom has unveiled a new high-end workstation powered by an AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro CPU and seven Nvidia GPUs. As you'd expect, the device comes with a hefty price tag to match its impressive hardware, and is available for purchase at €28,999 (around $31,627).

Here we go again... IS A PIGEON FASTER THAN THE INTERNET?
... As you can see, the internet only wins when you consider distances of thousands of miles. Homing pigeons win at distances up to a few hundred miles
