What is in a name? a filename to be exact? Can anyone help me parse and understand the GBT filenames?? I’m trying to parse the pieces of the filenames of the files sent from GBT and see what info they provide. If this is already posted somewhere please let me know. example filename: blc22_2bit_guppi_58340_46097_HIP4288_0052 The number after blc is related to the frequency. In the case of the file above it would be 22 . From looking at the calendar (linked below) I can see the frequency (GHz) is 8.00-10.00. I’m not exactly sure how 22 comes from that. the 2bit guppi part is standard to all of them I think. GUPPI is the Green Bank Ultimate Pulsar Processing Instrument, the backend system used for nearly all pulsar observing at the GBT. the next number is a modified julian date. In the case of the file above 58340 is Aug 10, 2018 I use this webpage for easy conversion http://www.csgnetwork.com/julianmodifdateconv.html No idea what the next number is. If I took a wild guess I’d say maybe a time stamp (46097 in this example) Next we get HIP and two numbers. No idea what these numbers are. I also like looking at the GBT calendar to see how many days of data we have to get through. GBT seems to collect so much data that a day’s observation might take us a week or more to process. Here is a link the GBT calendar and “Breakthrough Listening Project†is what to look for. https://dss.gb.nrao.edu/schedule/public Thank you for any assistance in placating my curiosity. |

The first 22 is the reciever channel number. Hip is the catalogue identifier and the following number is the catelogue entry number being observed. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Was perusing thru my BOINCstats overtake page today, I pop it up now and again, and over the years noted that I'd been creeping up the ranks ever so slowly, but it appears that this might be coming to an end. I saw that I was going to overtake a list of 50 people, within 1 to 53 days, but below that, I saw the list of 50 people who were going to overtake me, in between 1 and 60 days. The last time I remember looking at it in any detail (probably well over a year ago at least), there was a decent number of people who I was _eventually_ going to todder past, but maybe 3-5 people on average who were going to overtake me. Now there is a full list of 50, and I see that a lot of their RACs are in the millions.. WTH? I expect that this has the crypo finger prints all over it, but 1 to 5 million RAC, that just seems nuts. Anyone have any thoughts on this? The cool thing is that I am in the top 2500, but from the way things look, it won't be for long, because there is No way I am going to put together enough systems to get RAC in the millions. Sheesh. Again, not that I truly care, because those toasters really don't appeal to me, but I just thought it interesting. |

I expect that this has the crypo finger prints all over it, but 1 to 5 million RAC, that just seems nuts. 3 * Quad core/8 thread systems with 3 * GTX 1080s each running the Linux special application will get you a RAC over 1 million. A couple of 16 core/ 8 thread systems with 3 * RTX 2080Tis each & the Linux special application would probably produce 3 million. Edit- moving your GTX 1080/GTX 1070s to your Linux system would give a massive boost to your output, and making use of some command line options for your Windows systems would boost their output as well. Now there is a full list of 50, and I see that a lot of their RACs are in the millions.. WTH? Take Collatz out of that and exclude ASIC out and you would probably see some sanity. |

Now there is a full list of 50, and I see that a lot of their RACs are in the millions.. WTH? Yep- you need to make sure you are comparing just Seti stats. Other projects such as Collatz that pay ridiculous amounts of Credit, and comparing against projects that can make use of ASICs, just aren't valid comparisons. Grant Darwin NT |

Yes, you have to select just the single project you want to compare. You are no where that bad with respect to RAC or position in the stats. Al's overtake stats Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Yeah, I guess if I really want to get serious about it I should start thinking about the Special Sauce, and break the Windoze stranglehold. I just get those heebie jeebie's about Linux. Inertia and all that, plus past less than stellar experiences. It'd have to be done sometime during the winter when all things related to outdoor work are covered in snow, other than the snow itself. I'm pretty sure I could about double my RAC if I switched most of my systems to that software config.I expect that this has the crypo finger prints all over it, but 1 to 5 million RAC, that just seems nuts. Is it possible to move a machine ID/history over between Windowz and Linux? I vaguely remember reading something about that, wasn't blindingly simple, but thought I'd heard it could be done. |

Keith, how do you narrow it down to just one project? When I click on it from the left hand column, it just brings up all things Seti, but not my specific stats like you showed in your post. I am obviously missing something quite simple I'd think? |

Keith, how do you narrow it down to just one project? When I click on it from the left hand column, it just brings up all things Seti, but not my specific stats like you showed in your post. I am obviously missing something quite simple I'd think? Since I run multiple projects, I just click on the Projects tab to list my projects. Then since I am interested in the Seti@Home project I select the statistics just for that project. In the far right column, beyond the country position is the bar graph icon. Click on that to take you just to the statistics for Seti@Home. Then in the Overview stats page there is the hyperlink "Link to position in SETI@Home World stats based on incremental update" which you click. That takes you to the Stats page for all the users. Find "Al" in the list. Click on the red-green up/dn arrow in the far right column which hover help identifies as Overtake stats and you arrive at the screen I posted. Thanks for the detailed explanation Keith, I'll give it a shot when I have a chance. My goal is to end up with a screen like you had posted above. |
