It's sad when someone just does that out of instinct. :-(

I'm not condoning what the police did but it seems that Dominic Cummings has started a trend with his driving 30 miles to "test his eyesight". Seeing this report, I went to check my own bike tool & repair kit. Yep, no knife, so a question for that lawyer, how does one use a knife to repair a bike?

Who's talking about the police?
Mr Rustem said his client was legally carrying a blade for the purposes of repairing his bicycle.

All for the sake of argument...

At least we've moved on from the blood and expense of arguing using the tools of duels and guns...

Cops being Cops

Just normal police

The Los Angeles County sheriff's Compton patrol station "has been permeated" by a violent deputy gang called the "Executioners," according to a new legal claim.

What stands out in this complaint is that it was filed by an LASD deputy, Art Gonzalez, who worked at the Compton station for five years.

The filing comes as Loyola Law School's Center for Juvenile Law and Policy releases a new report detailing what it calls a persistent pattern of deputy gangs violating the rights of citizens and engaging in excessive force.

"They're going to frankly, kill and injure people that should never have been shot but for them wanting to join a gang and that's how you do it. You get into the gang by shooting people," says Gonzalez's attorney Alan Romero.

Los Angeles Snakebelly Department
A person with knowledge of the event, who spoke to The Times on the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals, said staff members of the bar had been notified that a party involving the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department had been booked for Friday night. About 100 people were expected to attend, according to that person.

In a statement Saturday, the sheriff’s department denied that the people in the video were employees or that it hosted the event.

Why?

Far too many brain dead haters are allowed firearms. ;-)

But better late than never.

Golden State Killer sentenced to life in prison.

Joseph DeAngelo, the man known as the Golden State Killer, has been sentenced to life in prison.

His sentencing is the culmination of a crime investigation that began in the 1970s and attracted worldwide interest.

DeAngelo, 74, was arrested in 2018 after his DNA was found on a genealogy website.

In June he admitted to 13 murders in a deal with US prosecutors meant to spare him the death penalty.

He also admitted to numerous rapes, burglaries and other crimes at the time...

...DeAngelo was a Californian police officer during his crimes in the 1970s and 80s and his crimes stretched across the state of California.

The former police officer, Vietnam War veteran and auto mechanic was arrested in April 2018 after police tracked him down by matching his DNA with a genealogy website.

re: "DeAngelo, 74, was arrested in 2018 after his DNA was found on a genealogy website."

Not per se; I am surprised the BBC would oversimplify to this degree... because he had never been arrested nor (for obvious reasons) ever submitted his DNA to a genealogical database. Instead, this case was a landmark for using public DNA databases to construct familial relationships for an otherwise unknown suspect; DNA samples were matched to persons in the database with shared ancestors five generations back, a consultant genealogist constructed a (huge) family tree and a closest match was identified. The suspect became known as a relative of this closest match in the database, his home was visited and DNA swabs were taken from exterior surfaces he may have touched. An exact genetic match to forensic evidence from the crimes was obtained and he was arrested.

Whilst guns continue to be promoted as 'playthings' and 'fun' and 'liberty'...

The repeated reality is that they are lethal weapons.

... believe ... was on drugs and having hallucinations at the time of the shooting [murder]...

A very lame defensive glib comment...

Which is easier to fix? Removing the guns? Removing the drugs? Both??

At least removing the guns would put gunshot murder beyond the capability of most drug users.

I wonder if we will see a positive change for the better with the demise of the long corrupt NRA?

All only in the USA?

Wow!

And just a little bit scary for when that capability is abused by the Medical and Health 'Industries'.

This is where we really do need to make public health a service rather than a cold uncaring greedy profit on patient suffering.

Knives, handguns, assault rifles, I suppose those debates will rage for years. However...
Where is the justification for shooting an unarmed man in the back?
