In Trump’s first seven months, the U.S. economy has added about 25,000 fewer jobs per month than it did during the last seven months of Barack Obama’s presidency. Why no jobs boom in the Trump era? |

Why no jobs boom in the Trump era? The economy's momentum is huge, it usually takes years for any policy change to have a tangible effect. Trump will suffer or benefit for years from the Obama era policies. The stock market is not the economy but a reflection of what it thinks will happen in the future and it is not always accurate. |

Why no jobs boom in the Trump era? @ betreger You are correct about the stock market being a sort of 'opinion on the future', as far as stock prices and various exchange (NYSE, CME, etc.) indexes go... BUT part of the information is a GOOD indicator of the current/recent past economy... Corporation's earnings statements (quarterly/yearly)... @ Nick: ID 666 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4293622/Trump-s-month-brings-massive-employment-boom.html There ya go, straight out of a UK newspaper. @ JaundicedEye Would that perhaps be 25,000 less 'marginal' jobs? Burger Flippers, Bag Boys, Corner Sign Holders? Lets find out... Sources: http://www.adpemploymentreport.com/2017/August/NER/NER-August-2017.aspx http://www.adpemploymentreport.com/2017/August/NER/docs/ADP_NER_History_2017_08.xlsx Ok... Obama's last 7 months: (June 2016 to Dec. 2016) Total added jobs: 1.334 million Total added jobs in the Goods-Producing sector: 60 thousand Total added jobs in the Service-Providing sector: 1.273 million. Trump's first 7 months: (Jan 2017 to July 2017) Total added jobs: 1.546 million. Total added jobs in the Goods-Producing sector: 318 thousand. Total added jobs in the Service-Providing sector: 1.228 million. Hmmmm... It seems that Nick: ID 666's claim of 25,000 fewer jobs is... organic fertilizer produced by a male bovine. Yes, Trump's job boom is lagging a bit when it comes to service-providing jobs (45,000 fewer), but that is more than made up for by the Jobs gains in the Goods-producing sector (258 thousand more... Total of 212 thousand more jobs for Trump over Obama during the given 7 month period. https://youtu.be/iY57ErBkFFE #Texit Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016. Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power. |

Of course there's going to be a jobs boom 45 will put Britain first on the queue for trade deals because he knows that Britain is too weak & gullible as he puts America first. |

If you believe anything written in the daily mail then you honestly need your head testing. And I didn't know that the census office produced organic fertiliser. Isn't the increase, as you point out, in the manufacturing industries a consequence of Obama era than some thing 45 has done. Now if you had argued that the job numbers hadn't increased much because most of the changes recently have been about people moving from part time to full time, or from low pay to higher pay I would have agreed with you. It's a well known fact that it is easier to get a new job if you are employed that it is for the unemployed. |

And I didn't know that the census office produced organic fertiliser.Neither did I. However ADP has been known to when its stock price needs a bump. |

If you believe anything written in the daily mail then you honestly need your head testing. Ok... You might prefer the Bureau of the Census (part of the US Department of Commerce). I tend to use the Bureau of Labor Statistics (part of the US Department of Labor) for this sort of information. Lets see what the BLS has to say. Sources: https://www.bls.gov/opub/ee/2016/ces/summarytable_201612.pdf https://www.bls.gov/opub/ee/2017/ces/summarytable_201707.pdf Obama's Last 7 months (June 2016 to Dec. 2016): Total nonfarm: 1.402 million Total private: 1.284 million Total Goods-producing: 0.037 million Total Service-providing: 1.247 million Total Government: 0.118 million Trump's First 7 months (Jan. 2017 to July 2017): Total nonfarm: 1.290 million Total private: 1.231 million Total Goods-producing: 0.242 million Total Service-providing: 0.989 million Total Government: 0.059 million Now then... At first glance, these numbers might suggest that your statement (re: 25000 fewer per month -- besides it is more like 16000 fewer per month) had some veracity. Don't pop a cork on a bottle of your favorite libation just yet... First, look at those two data tables I linked from the BLS. The numbers are 'seasonally adjusted'. That means that they are not the TRUE numbers, but instead have been fudged around in somewhat unknown ways. The BLS does not make it this easy to find the 'non-seasonally adjusted' figures. If you wish, I might continue to fish around and compile them, but it is a pain in the arse. Second, look at the numbers and think of Trump's campaign. Who did he campaign to? Primarily the disaffected working class people whose former manufacturing jobs have been exported and are now lucky to have a low-pay menial job sacking groceries or selling shoes. Also, his 'drain the swamp' theme... Those disaffected with the sorry-arse state of the political process these days in the USA with the Democrats and the Republicans, each with their petty fiefdoms, putting interests of party and their own selves ahead of the good of the nation... Drain the Swamp. Realizing this, look at the numbers again. 205 thousand more 'goods-producing' jobs... 59 thousand fewer Government (Bureaucrats) jobs. As to this: Isn't the increase, as you point out, in the manufacturing industries a consequence of Obama era than some thing 45 has done. Normally, you would be correct... But Business in the USA was just SO overjoyed at Trump's election that that jumped the gun and started counting their chickens before they hatched. In other words, it was Trump's election that caused this, not what little he has been able to get done. But... don't feel too sad. The Democrat establishment HATES Trump, and the Republican establishment does too. He urinated big-time in their Wheatie-bowl with his drain the swamp rhetoric. The job gain boom is already fizzling out since Trump hasn't been able to get much of his program done due to D/R blockage. Unless there is some sort of Deus Ex Machina, I doubt he will be re-elected. It is a shame it was Trump that got elected in 2016 (instead of Johnson), because a lot of Trump's agenda does need doing... Just Trump is the absolute worst one to do it. Whata putz. Oh, and I know all about the 'Daily Fail', as some here call it. I just couldn't resist that link. Perhaps we can re-visit this topic at the one-year or two-year mark. Might have more basis to compare things then. https://youtu.be/iY57ErBkFFE #Texit Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016. Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power. |

Normally, you would be correct... But Business in the USA was just SO overjoyed at Trump's election that that jumped the gun and started counting their chickens before they hatched. Major in this you are correct, but with no follow up it may very well fizzle out. If nothing else the 2 hurricanes this month will in the long run be a drag on the economy. |

... and just when I have been half giving up on the Democratic party, My man Bernie pulls this out of his sleeve. On Wednesday afternoon Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders followed through on a promise to introduce a universal healthcare programme that replaces the current regulated free-market insurance system with a government-run one.yes, a truly UNIVERSAL healthcare plan. I love the gesture. Of course this bill won't go anywhere in reality, but that's not the point at all. It's becoming clear - if it wasn't already - that the upcoming Democratic presidential nomination contest, which will begin in earnest in 2019, will be conducted on progressive soil. The danger for candidates is seeming too moderate or too timid, and support for single-payer is a relatively easy way to burnish their liberal bona fides.I love it! The bill even has 16 senators backing it! Health care is a basic human right – and it’s time to fight for it. Please join me in signing on as a citizen co-sponsor of Medicare for All.Yep, universal healthcare is stepping out from the background and in to the foreground. It's about time. BIG OL happy universal right to healthcare yap: YAP!!! #resist |

Well, one can dream. I absolutely adore our single-payer health care system, and once a plan like this is in place and working no one in their right mind would suggest getting rid of it (ie the Canadian Conservative party completely supports it.) Amazingly, if it's properly run it ends up being cheaper for the government than the private system! Our federal government pays about $4.7K US/yr. per citizen in health care costs, whereas in the U.S. the cost to the government is around $10K! There must be a lot of graft, waste and unnecessary expenses going on to cause this difference. Incidentally we had a national "Greatest Canadian" (ever) poll recently and Tommy Douglas won handily; he is best known for starting the first universal health care system when he was premier of Saskatchewan, it was quickly picked up by other provinces and then made national by Prime Minister Diefenbaker (also a Conservative party member.) Tommy Douglas' Saskatchewan also had universal dental and a non-profit government run auto insurance system with very reasonable premiums, yet Saskatchewan's economy boomed and the government ran in the black without deficit. Get rid of the frauds and the bureaucrats and it is possible... |

There must be a lot of graft, waste and unnecessary expenses going on to cause this difference. Yep, in our country the oligarchs get to take their "fair" share. Listen to the Republicans, we have the best health care system in the world, even though our mortality rate is higher than yours. What they should be saying is we have the most advanced system if you can afford it. If not you get to die prematurely. |

Our dyed in the wool democratic president makes a deal! http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_CONGRESS_IMMIGRATION?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2017-09-13-23-23-31 WASHINGTON (AP) -- The top House and Senate Democrats said Wednesday they had reached agreement with President Donald Trump to protect thousands of younger immigrants from deportation and fund some border security enhancements - not including Trump's long-sought border wall. |

Our dyed in the wool democratic president makes a deal! Love it. The RINOs had their chance and blew it. He's shaking up the GOP which is why I voted for him in the primary over Cruz. ... and still I fear, and still I dare not laugh at the Mad Man! Queen - The Prophet's Song |
