Ah yes Nevada, home of sin.

Once the federal block is removed and money can be banked, credit card and traded on the stock exchange, capitalism will do its thing. Wonder how long before COBE weed futures begin to trade?

I stand by my opinion that the 'Mom and Pop' growers will wither and mostly die. To be taken over by Big Weed. AKA Big Tobacco Companies.

Due to the investment required to grow for resale(facility, lighting, ventilation, fertilizer, water and the labor cost for daily plant maintenance of the product)requires somewhere around $1,000,000 initial capital to make a profit. Then there are license fees, taxes, zoning issues and most importantly Security costs. It's not yet a turnkey franchise so rather than Mom and Pop I would refer to them as Small Business endeavors. Probably an unnecessary distinction but valid.

No doubt you are correct, the economies of scale alone drive that movement in every mercantile endeavor. Walmart and the like destroyed the local 5 and 10 just as they replaced the 'General Store'. Now Kmart/Sears, Target and possibly even Walmart are being replaced with the latest economy of scale, Amazon.

That being said, as long as the Law is written in each State and Federally to allow growth for personal consumption, not merchandising, the effect of Big Business on those who choose to 'recreate' will be what each chooses it to be. Home Brewing and Home Distillation of Spirits for private consumption is allowed Federally and in most States(distilling). I see no difference in Home Growing for personal use.

Just as bootleg whiskey continues so will small untaxed commercial pot operations continue.

Most consumers will eventually buy from the regulated, certified content and inspected product, from a taxed grower, taxed distributor and taxed retailer.

Sounds very OK to me.

That ain't gonna happen, The Feds haven't been able to do it, I doubt the oligarchs will spend the money to do it due to the ROI factor.

But Merck did with Red Rice Yeast. Patent trolling is very profitable.

There is a long proud history and tradition in America regarding the Brewing, Fermenting and Growing for personal use. Both the Oligarchs(Seagrams, Inbev, etc.) and the Governments have been largely ignored by these traditionalists and it will continue with Cannabis.

Better and more economical to legalize small cultivation(6 or so plants) for personal use than pay for their arrest, prosecution and incarceration and instead concentrate on the giant illegal grows for profit than abound.
This will also funnel more recreants and medical customers to taxed and government controlled outlets generating revenue.

Most Americans support legalizing marijuana for recreational use and a strong majority believe it should at least be available for medical reasons, according to a new poll.

Only 14 percent say marijuana should be illegal.

The findings come as Attorney General Jeff Sessions is believed to be readying a crackdown on marijuana users.

http://thehill.com/homenews/345028-poll-finds-support-for-marijuana-legalization

It's not just polls, the facts say Opioid Painkillers kill ~80 people/day in the US, medical marijuana kills 0.

Now if this was government controlled, the order would go out - Increase production :-)

In the USA, where States have 'legalized' cannabis. And the Federal Government, as of now, has not been able to stop the practice:

The operations are becoming very large and profitable. With expensive labs, testing, decontamination suits, etc. Not Mom-and-Pops backyard growers.

Interesting, All I see is small operations.

The larger operations are coming from expanding Mom & Pop Ops in our area. Each state is different. Some will go big guys only and some will not and some will have a mix. Much like booze, wine and beer in my state, we have a mix across the board. Licenses are limited here and already issued. No licenses, no do business, it's a closed business here.

If the Feds get weird it will go underground again or be ignored . It is not going away... har!

Local news yesterday reported that AG Sessions sent a letter to the Governors of Colorado, Washington, Oregon and Nevada (maybe others) stating that local regulations will not deter the DOJ from enforcing Federal Law concerning Cannabis.

Whether this meant enforcement against sale, production or use was not mentioned.

That just might bring about the long needed change in Federal law.

Only for states rights when it curtails individual rights.
