I have had three scam calls on my dad's phone today, I always answer now. One apparently from BT and two from "Microsoft" all with extremely difficult to understand Indian accents, all terribly bad at reading the script. I also hate being called Mr Wine, I mostly say "No" and hang up. One of them was going on about my computer generating errors and was totally floored when I said "which one", there was a long pause, then he just carried on with the script. As I got bored easily, I started to say, I had spent my last 12 years working in IT support, oh he seems to have hung up. Odd thing is I haven't had a call in weeks, and to get 3 on the same day, weird |

Jan, a lien would be to seize from the cheat any money we owed the cheat. We were 3rd party. Also get those for child support to garnish paychecks. The calls from skip trace though were looking for any contact information we might have, like a change of address or a phone number they didn't have. |

Many companies get them here. Many pay them as well. It's difficult to tell fraud invoices from real invoices. But that they phone the company is new to me. Usually unpaid invoices go straight to our IRS. Pay or else! |

"Emily" has NOT bothered me again for a couple weeks now. Though, prior to that, she tried calling in THREE times in two days. Also, she's/it's taken to calling my parents' line several times over the past week. I was getting a "newer" Robocall that I let go to my answering machine for screening. This one is NOT too intelligent of a scammer; as the "caller" seems to start talking during my machine's outgoing message. By the time my machine beeps to let the incoming message record, all I get is "...there's no..." and then the call ends. My machine is Voice Activated; so, I know that it's not cutting the caller off; the caller is ending itself when it realizes I haven't answered the phone, live. The Caller ID's for this one have varied; some labelled as persons' names; some just with the phone number. All of the calls have been "Local"; BUT, one Caller ID claimed to be "Claremont Homes"; so, I researched that company name, it IS legit. I called them to let them know that Scammers are passing themselves off as Claremont Homes, I got a call back from CH and they were thankful of the information and are now investigating legal options against the perpetrators. :-) CH confirmed with me that NONE of their reps use automated "robot" systems, and that the Caller ID Number I reported to CH may have been an OLD CH Number at one time. However; now, I haven't had a repeat of this Scammer for about a week. TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

Jan, not fraud with return addresses of the IRS, payment payable to United States Treasury, on form 668 and they usually enclose a return envelope franked postage paid US Government, for official business only. Understand they know to contact the company because we have reported making payments to the person they are after in the past, be if employee or contractor. They want their money, and since the cheat didn't send it to them when they asked nicely, now they are going to take it by force. |

I'm beginning to think your English isn't quite strong enough to understand all the terms, acronyms, and idioms Gary is using. His company got calls from federal tax investigators who were trying to track down other firms that his company was doing business with and that were cheating on their taxes. The investigators had two goals: to get additional contact information for the tax cheaters, and to seize funds his company may have owed to the cheaters. I'm sure his company's people were smart enough to request official paperwork and check it carefully before handing over any money. On other occasions, government officials wanted to garnish the wages of employees who were not paying child support as ordered. I'm not saying fraudulent invoices don't happen, but they're not what Gary was talking about. Have now received 5 calls this week on and 2 last week on my Google Voice (VOIP) number from "random callers" - all with the same modus operandi where they are calling from the SAME Area Code & Prefix/Exchange of my GV number but a different random last 4 digits. They have not been able to leave any messages because GV has been automatically marking them as spam/junk calls. There has been some discussion on the 800Notes.com forums about this "trend" and a few people posted that it has been happening on their cell phone numbers also. |

Not phone, but still idiots with computers. A few times I've gotten bulk rate specials to a Gary different last name. Somebody didn't have the last name field selected when they hit sort in excel. Today however takes the cake. While the names have caps as their first letter, the rest looks like it came out of a random number generator as far as I can tell. Do these marketing idiots realize how much $$$ they are wasting buying crap lists? OB Phone. Been getting calls for my Dad again. I kept the family phone number when he died 18 years ago as a couple of relatives may not have had any other number. Tell me how anyone thinks a person who hasn't made a purchase in 18 years is a good prospect to call? Worse, I got one for Mom. She has been gone 30 years now. Do these marketing idiots realize how much $$$ they are wasting buying crap lists? Of course the number is on the national do not call list, makes no difference to a criminal, he'll jiggle every door lock on the block. |

Just got a call with a new twist. "Hello this is nurse Karen with a medial alert. Can you hear me ok? " The call went on asking several question which would likely elicit a yes response. It was a recorded voice. But this one was a native English speaker. Clearly a scam attempting to record you saying yes. Take care they are getting better. |

Over the last THREE DAYS, I've been getting calls every random few minutes that are Scam Calls. I finally took advice from someone here who said to do the following. "It's done. There's blood everywhere. Send the cleaner." Well, I had my car in for service today, and needed their shuttle driver to pick me up. So, when he called, the Caller ID did NOT specify the shop that I use; SO, I ran through the above quote in as serious a voice as I could muster. I SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF THIS POOR SHUTTLE DRIVER!!!!! OMG, the two of us had a laugh all the way back to the shop to pick up my car. lol TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! I got another resort call yesterday. When she tried to get me to say yes, I said, trying to match her bubbly sweet voice, "Bullsh*t." She took that as a "no," said something polite, and hung up. I got a call today from a recording that wanted to thank my mother for supporting President Trump and if she could donate $50 today, somebody or other would triple-match it. I told him that if she were alive she would tell him to go to hell (she wouldn't, but that was as much as I could tone down what I really wanted to say). He said he'd put us on their do not call list and hung up. And I got the one again today from Account Services about lowering my credit card interest rate. That one ends with press 1 to talk to a live person or press 2 to be put on our do not call list. I hung up. I've never had a phone scam call in my entire 60+ years life. Lucky you. I use this to avoid telemarketing calls. http://nixtelefon.org/ Works very good. However phone scam calls... Perhaps 15 calls from Calcutta saying I have problems with my computer. Even my GF get those calls despite from the beginning she didn't have a computer. Sigh... |
