It's 2am Sunday with 12.8C outside and 18.7C inside. After a very long hot spell it looks like summer has finally thrown in the towel. |

Beautiful day here in kittyland. 60f and golden sunshine. Nicest day of the year so far. Wonderful to get a taste of spring on the 1st of April. Also had a couple of ducks paddling around in the temporary spring pond I have out at the end of my lot. It ponds over every spring, and will dry up in a few weeks. 40s and at least a little bit of rain every day through Friday. Saturday, when I will be inside all day, will of course be sunny and warmer. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

April 3rd, 1974 was a terrible tornado day for the Midwest and SouthEast of the U.S. I remember looking out our dining room window and seeing a massively wide funnel wall cloud. It didn't look like the typical Kodak picture of a twister, but it tore through Louisville. The city is still missing good old trees from that time. My mother and I went to the basement, and my dad, coming home from work downtown, was stuck on the city bus because the streets had been barricaded by storm debris. It didn't look like the typical Kodak picture of a twister, but it tore through Louisville. The city is still missing good old trees from that time. When I was in 4th grade, probably spring 1976, we were all told to sit under our desks while a tornado* took the roof off the Racquet Club a mile or two away. My mother was having lunch with a friend at a Chinese restaurant** less than a mile away. They didn't know anything about it until they left and the hostess said "Watch out for the tornado!" * With 40 years of retrospect, I wonder if it was a microburst. ** WRT discussion of them in the food thread, it was a nice dining place, long since gone. That strip mall now has a carry-out place that I don't like (but apparently a lot of people do -- it's been there longer than the original place was). Second season of the day.... Cold and damp, almost autumnal to start with. Now bright, sunny and spring like. Only two more seasons to go and it will be a full-house for the day! Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |
