Hehe:) I have also been a Wolf Cub member when I was 9 or 10 years old. The leader of the pack was called Akela. That I remember and that we got badges for doing things I don't remember. Wolf Cubs still use "The Jungle Book" by Rudyard Kipling who was a friend to Baden-Powell as a basis. |

Late to the party once again. The sell by date for eggs is exactly that. NOT the use by date. Depends on how you store them. Danimal was cooking/baking by the age of three, courtesy of the Delta College Pre school Program. A bit scary when I found out, but he still enjoys it and no insures. Cookietaster learned to swim at about one year old. Joined the local swim team at four. I still remember him vividly doing the 25 yrd butterfly. It took a lot of faith, because I thought he might drown, but he made it. Pluto will always be a Planet to me. |

I'm not sure how things are elsewhere, but in the USA we like our purchased eggs to look clean. When an egg is mechanically washed, a protective layer called the cuticle is removed. This makes an egg more susceptible to bacterial invasion. Consequently, it is recommended in this country that eggs be kept in the refrigerator until used. If we did not wash our eggs until just before we cracked them open, we could keep them un-refrigerated and they would have a longer shelf life. |

Tell me would you buy eggs at the market when you open the box and has crap over them you'd buy them? I sure wouldn't paying top price for them. Going to a farmer and you know they are fresh is a bit different, you just take them home and clean them. But in a store you might not know how old they are. Dates or not |

It's mainly boiled eggs, omelettes, scrambled eggs etc that need to be that fresh. That may be true for soft boiled eggs, but it is not the case for hard boiled eggs. It is very difficult to shell hard boiled eggs that are very fresh. There is naturally a little air gap between an egg white and shell, in every egg. That air gap gets bigger over time, as moisture within an egg evaporates out and air from outside moves in to fill the gap. The bigger the air gap, the easier it is to shell an egg. If I have to make hard boiled eggs for a party, I buy a carton of eggs early and let them sit in the refrigerator for a week or two. Then, when I boil them, they come right out of the shell. The eggs taste fine and I don't lose much of the boiled egg white in a losing battle with the shell. |

It's mainly boiled eggs, omelettes, scrambled eggs etc that need to be that fresh. One other trick on shelling them is to pin prick the end before you boil them. Which end? The one that is up when they are in water, it has the air pocket. What happens is when you put them in cold water to stop the cooking the water will enter the hole and get between the shell and the membrane. I believe that is also why some tell you to crack the shells under water while they are still cooling. |

My mom didn't boil eggs a whole lot, so I don't remember if She pricked them or not. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

did you ever see on TV that gadget that suppose shell an egg, well I got one for my GF but I tried it once and sure enough it worked. Well I took it to her house and told her this is the bee's knee's. So I got a few boiled eggs out and went to work. None out of 6 worked, she walked over to the sink and started peeling them. LOL They have to be old to work is what I see. |

The older the eggs the better they peal. I stop at three weeks of the sell by date. Pluto will always be a Planet to me. |
