I've just started "Ignition! - An informal History of Liquid Rocket Propellants" by John D. Clark. To quote from the Preface (by Isaac Asimov) Now its clear that anyone working with rocket fuels is outstandingly mad. I don't mean garden-variety crazy or merely raving lunatic. I mean record-shattering exponent of far-out insanity. John D. Clark survived into retirement in a field where many didn't... and his book sort of tells the story of these chemicals which want to explode, poison, burn, or just simply kill you. And it's an easy read!!!!! Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

With all this spring cleaning business going on here I've been a bit slow on the reading bit, but last night I finally finished Raymond E. Feist's "Riftwar Saga" series and started on his next series, The Empire Trilogy. Cheers. |

An interesting exercise is to read the first edition alongside a later one and spot the differences in content as opposed to those in grammar - many years ago I did this helping a friend who was studying the development of language used in scientific publications - each member of the class was given a well known book that had first been published, then revised over at least fifty years.... A good way to wreck a few wet nights :-( Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |
