I think the world is well aware of America's understanding of the lesser of two evils, so a question for you:

Which was the lesser evil - Shah of Iran or Ayatollah Khomeini?

Again, there are no degrees of pregnancy............both were/are intolerant of free thought or speech against the Shah/Ayatollah, both unjustly imprison, torture and 'disappear' those deemed to be undesirable to the power du jour..........a monarchy/dictator is no more or less evil than a religious despot/dictator.........only a different face on the master and different rules of survival for the common man.

That being said the US was in bed with the Shah as a foil against the threat of the Soviet Union(who were supporting Egypt and Iraq at that time). That is not an excuse but rather a strategic alliance which has been a standard tool used by diplomats and leaders for centuries.

Which is why the USA is universally despised, it has no morals and will get in bed with anyone to make a buck.

From the western point of view the Shah was the lesser of two evils. From the point of view of the Iranian people I have no idea. Back to Kim and NK, we (the west) screwed up when NK was first reported to be experimenting with nuclear energy and politicians thought there was a way to negotiate and talk them into dropping their nuclear plans. As I recall some lady named Hillary Clinton thought she could succeed with diplomatic negotiations where all who went before her failed. It's obvious now that she failed too.

Don't everyone think it's difficult to negotiate about dropping nuclear plans with a country or countries that have far more nuclear weapons than themself?

Sigh... here we go again...

North Korea warned Sunday that the upcoming US-South Korea military exercises are "reckless behavior driving the situation into the uncontrollable phase of a nuclear war."
Pyongyang also declared that its army can target the United States anytime, and neither Guam, Hawaii nor the US mainland can "dodge the merciless strike."

Kim will not stop his threats and intimidations. Which may lead to a horrible miscalculation on his part.

Possibly this should fill people with dread: The 2018 Winter Olympics will be held in South Korea, from February 9th to 25th.

Yeah, I mentioned that a week ago(https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=81010&postid=1884025)........but I think Kim has backed himself into a very bad corner and now must carry out his threats in some way or lose face. I don't think he's patient enough to wait until February.

I Hope To God I'm Wrong..........

Naw Ping Pong II has nothing to worry. Not when he reads what Trump retorted to the announcement that 10 US sailors are missing & 5 injured in an incident near Singapore "That's too bad".

Lovely morale booster for the US Armed Forces from its Commander-in-Chief.

Who are the war mongers? Kim or GOP?
http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2017/08/20/Poll-Most-Americans-oppose-military-threats-against-North-Korea/9691503271344/?st_rec=6581503303637
Aug. 20 (UPI) -- The majority of Americans oppose U.S. military threats against North Korea, according to a new poll. But that opinion changes if diplomatic efforts fail to solve the rift between the two countries.

The CBS News poll found that 59 percent of Americans believe the U.S. "should not" threaten military action against North Korea, while 33 percent said it should.

Among Republicans, however, those numbers are almost reversed. The poll found that 63 percent of GOP supporters believe the U.S. should threaten military action, while 30 percent said it should not.

Seems to have been similar difference of opinion, in the UK. Regarding what efforts should be undertaken regarding a possibly similar Maniac Leader. Whose name was Hitler.
Kim hasn't published Mein Kampf.

Just remember the British Government, with their peoples acceptance. Purposefully burning alive Germain children. In their Terror Bombing raids.

The same as the American Government, with their peoples acceptance. Purposefully burning alive Japanese children. In their Terror Bombing raids.
