There are certain chinks in our satellite system than only myself and a few mostly retired engineers know about.
They are scared as shit of me and have begged me for years to keep mum.
I have, and I shall.
Back doors that never should have been left open, which I discovered by accident, and I almost brought one down to earth orbit.
This was caught within minutes and I was contacted directly........
Via that same satellite.

Not intentionally..............but I accidentally hacked my way into the satellite, and was viewing things I should NOT have.
Including the orbit control bits. Ooops.
I deleted all those control files immediately. I could not duplicate them again if I wished to.
Long gone.

Great view, however.

But I was able to establish comms with NASA, and canceled the code I had sent by mistake.
They and I now have an agreement..............and I do some...........how do I say this..............countermeasures for them.
Because others were intentionally trying to do what I had done by accident.
And so far, they have not succeeded.

We have 'an arrangement' that I shall never open that link again.
And I am not going there again. I can. I know how. But if I did, we all know how that would end.
That was back in 2010, and I know they are still watching me.
I do not have the files to do so anymore.

These are military class comms satellites I am talking about. Not just space probes.

My love of cats would be the most significant, but my general love of live cannot be ignored either.

This year the State included the RAI TV fee in the electric bill, since so many people were escaping it. So my electric bill rose to a maximum of 116 euro/month, with 3 PCs running 24/7. But now it is back to 90 euro/month. I have installed 2 nVidia boards, one taking 70 W and the other 75 W in 2 PCs out of 3. First I had a AMD/ATI HD 7770 using 105 W. The nVidia are GTX 750 on an old Linux box and a GTX 1050 TI on a newer Windows 10 PC. I have also a Sky TV bill via Internet of 14 euro/month, so my total electric bill is about 104 euro/month.This includes all electric power used by PCs, TV, radio, vacuum cleaner and lights, all of the high efficiency type. Heating is by methane gas, no AC.

During the winter months here, the electric costs contribute nicely to the home heating costs, so there is some offset.
During the summer, it reverses itself, and I pay more for electricity than comfort.
I remember my old GTX295s................two GPUs in one slot.....
The heat they created destroyed a lot of things.............LOL.

I had forgotten that scene, just scant months from 70 it makes me smile at the 'exuberance' of youth.........

On a personal note about age, I was adopted at birth and had often wondered about the life story of my birth mother. A year ago I began doing genealogy research on my adoptive ancestors through the LDS database on Family Search a free service.

On a lark about two weeks ago I entered what little I knew of my birth mother hoping to find some trail she might have left in her life. As both of my adoptive parents passed away in the 90s I didn't expect to find much other than a grave location. I found her in the 1930 and 1940 census records but drew a blank after that. A school friend who managed to track down all of our Class of 65 classmates except 70 out of 560 offered to help so I gave him what I had so far.

The short of it is, I found her...........not a grave site, a living person with an address and phone number. She's 90 now so I'm approaching very cautiously with a letter of introduction giving the option of contacting me or not. I also found a 1/2 sister aged 65 and always being an only child that's a new feeling.

Anyway, that's my Christmas story and I'm hoping for a good New Year.....
