I believe the order is. - Shutdown, copy BOINC folder with all files - Uninstall/reinstall -- do not start BOINC - Replace BOINC folder with backup copy - Start up It looks like all your tasks were abandoned, so unrecoverable. |

No, Warski's procedure is the better (and easier) way - but something obviously went wrong. When re-installing BOINC, you have to manually adjust the location of the data folder, using the 'Advanced' screen in the BOINC installer - I've done that several times, including recovering data from the hard drives of failed computers, and it's worked for me. As you say, it's too late now - if the tasks are marked abandoned in the server, it's not worth recovering them and crunching them. They'll have been sent to somebody else to complete, so nothing is lost - just press ahead with the new work that's been issued. For future reference, it would be sensible to see where BOINC is currently storing its data - which folder has up-to-date timestamps on the files - which might reveal a clue as to what went wrong. |

Bump! I have yet to compute my total credit here, but most of it ended up on Windows XP discs or partitions. For one thing are the logs themselves, next becomes the possible running environment, including that for running the tasks. Count to it both Seti@home as well as PrimeGrid and also a couple of other projects as well and you definitely know that there is no simple answer here. Especially when you are dealing with both file and directory duplicates and next did not bother about the remaining thing or issue. Edit: I will make a note of Richard's advice here using Notepad for future use. |

I just came back to city at home. I have ID and password for SETI at home but not for BOINC. I am able to download and process packets but unable to upload to point manager. Went to point manager website looking for something akin to "forgot password" link. No such link found. Went to reset and answer my email address-and it says it's already been sent. But still no visible way of finding out what the ID and password is.for BOINC acct manager. I would value any suggestions on how to get back on track so I can upload these process packets. Thank you |

The BOINC program does not have a username/password, the projects you connect to have user names and passwords. There was some server maintenance early which would have caused upload problems, but I believe all was well when you posted this. |
