As a new Boinc Tasks user I have many questions. Is there anyone who can/will answer them?

Shoot, being that I had used it a while ago, I might be rusty with the program :)

. . As I am a rank beginner I think you may be ahead of me at least. I have noticed that in the History tab (this is the main reason I am trying it out, I am used to the BOINC Manager interface but wanted a history function) the column where is shows "reported OK" some entries have a plus symbol and some others have an Asterisk, but I cannot find any reference that explains what they signify, do you know?

. . I also want the History function to archive my results on a day by day basis, so that I have a separate file listing all the completed WU's for each day. So that I can see how runtimes and daily performance are going over a longer period of time. But again, the only documentation I can find (the online manual) is very superficial and does not offer much info on how to make things happen in the history function.

. . I would also like BT to use UTC to keep everything on a fixed time basis so that the figures aren't skewed by Daylight saving, etc.

. . I know I want a lot from this app but I am an optimist :) I was hoping there were some experienced users who might have the answers ...

. . Hi Bill,

. . I first joined the project back in 2012 but only at a rudimentary level, I was running an old Pentium 4 3GHz with no GPU and getting very low numbers but I had no frame of reference. When the PSU in that rig went poof I ceased to participate, my other (and main) PC lost it's hard drive about the same time and I gave up completely. I bought a new PC in February and got back into S@H only to get much more actively involved than before. I even enhanced a cheap Core2 Duo that I bought from an office closure years earlier by adding more ram and a GT730 and caught the Seti bug.

. . I realise that is probably boring and too much information but the point I was getting to is that the project has changed a great deal in the few months I have been back into it. With MB V8, Breakthrough Listen and all the Green Bank WUs and the proposed closure of Arecibo it is a time of turmoil, but they have been interesting times :)

. . Does your reply here mean that you are getting more active/active again with the project?

. . And the bottom line, do you know anything about BOINC Tasks ? :)

Stephen

That is BOINCTasks saying that it was last seen uploading but it lost the connection and it disappeared from client_state.xml, it recovered its stats though.

I don't think there is a way to aggregate on a day by day basis, but you can see each WU runtimes over 2 weeks
Oh and if you want to save WU stat data long term enable this:

Again I don't think you can adjust time, without setting Windows to UTC, which is troublesome

As far as I know BT uses the time from the logs on the computer it is monitoring. But what time is that? Is it the system time, or offset from UTC set in your SETI web preferences?

You could try setting your web preferences to UTC and see if it changes anything, Or set your computer times to UTC.

If all else fails, get another wall clock and set it to UTC :)

As for daily logging, you can copy the days worth of work and paste it to a spreadsheet. I think, BT also keeps it's data in a CSV file that you could import from. That would be ideal for scripting imports.

BT time is the timezone set by your computer. So for instance my laptop is set to Sydney time which is GMT+11, for other people its different obviously

Disclaimer: I am not wearing my glasses currently, I may have interpreted your response incorrectly. And I may have typed something incorrectly, since I can't see

. . Hi,

. . I am actually running Windows 10 and have dual time zone clocks running, one for local time and one on UTC, but BT uses the local time :(

. . It was just on my wishlist :)

. . I was hoping I could tell BT to use the secondary clock running on UTC time, oh well.

. . I can relate to the glasses thing but I think you got it pretty right :)

Why not set the primary clock for UTC time and seconadary for "local time" saems simple enough

. . Hmmm, I am now contemplating the ramifications of taking that approach. I wonder what other things will be impacted if I am running UTC on the primary clock. Probably not that much.

. . Thanks for the suggestion.

. . I am now wondering if it would be better to actually set it to Berkely time instead ........
