- boinctray.exe is running People which do this (kill boinctray.exe and not restart it) may see how BOINC later may/will not obey the Setting: "Suspend when computer is in use" (and other "Suspend" modes which depend on monitoring mouse/keyboard) No any need to kill boinctray.exe It is "invisible" process (no GUI, no icon) which only monitors mouse/keyboard - needed for Windows Vista, 7 ++ (not needed for Windows XP) a case where there's enough of an outage that a CPU or GPU queue runs dry while its counterpart still has work. That might well be worthwhile to develop. Another thing that could be worth addressing would be relocating APs from CPU to GPU queue Both can be done by eFMer BOINC Rescheduler - get it and try it (for AP works as-is, for MB needs patching) http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=79954&postid=1821935#1821935 BOINC Rescheduler have [Test] button which shows the current conditions and what will happen. Have "Simulation mode, only create a new state file" on [Expert] tab - then [Run] will only create a new client_state.xml in the BOINC Rescheduler's "Temp folder:" but not copy it over the original (i.e. will not modify BOINC Data directory) so you'll have the opportunity to compare the changes. The only problem seems to be if you have tasks from SETI@home Beta (similar to the problem with GUPPI Rescheduler) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

Think you might have a "problem" Yeah, and I can't envision that there's that much going on. So either it's a glitch with Dropbox, or someone is running a DOS attack on my account ... Sorry ... |

What are Dropbox's Terms of Service? A reasonable sized file, with 3-5 people all trying to download it at the same time could easily be considered "too much traffic" for a free account. Grant Darwin NT |

Could be, though I have to think it would take an awful lot of folks hitting a 118kb file to exceed that. If there's more than 20 people even running QOpt, I would be surprised. r |

OK, let's try this again! Important issue with QOPt! Please read, if you use it. QOpt has been updated to version 1.02h, available here in both 32- and 64-bit versions, to resolve the following issue: If running, BOINCTray was being closed down but not properly restarted. This would not cause problems with processing or handling tasks, but could result in BOINC not properly yielding resources back to the user, as keyboard and mouse activity would not be detected. Starting with version 1.02h, BOINCTray will not be shutdown by default. As with BOINCManager and BoincTasks, shutdown and proper restart can be invoked, if desired, using new command line option "-y". This should never be required for normal operation, but is included for diagnostic purposes. Latest AV Scan looks pretty good also, at 8/56! Kaspersky still complains, but the others that had an issue I've never heard of. This update should be considered mandatory, if you have specified options in BOINC manager or via web Computing preferences in your profile specifically related to shutting BOINC down when the computer is "not idle". A few other cosmetic fixes have also been included, as I continue to refine this. As always, please drop a note back with comments, questions or concerns! And, since I was having issues with DropBox, if you succeed in getting it downloaded here, please let me know. Thanks! Regards, Jim ... |

Should be better now ... No real answer as to why DropBox choked on this, but I would guess an errant AV false positive on their part? If so, that's pretty scary considering the issues I've had with that. Definitely wasn't a usage limit, as indicated, given that the free account limitations are 20gb or 100k downloads. But Defender seems to like the files on my PC lately, and hopefully the OneDrive links will be fine. It's nice to have choices ... |

. . Hi Jim, . . OK no luck at all, Avast chucks a wobbly when I try to get it from one drive, every time, even after it has passed scan. Then it will not download as Onedrive throws an error (part file cannot be read). . . Aint life grand :) Stephen . |

Can't you just whitelist the zip file in Avast before downloading? Dunno, haven't looked at that in forever. |

QOpt has been updated to version 1.02h, available here in both 32- and 64-bit versions... Just downloaded this file and, while McAfee didn't have a problem with the download, nor with a subsequent scan of the zip file, it still has a problem with the 64-bit version after the files are extracted from the zip. It quickly nukes it as containing trojan "Artemis!AC357B6AEEBD". The 32-bit .exe scans just fine. |

QOpt has been updated to version 1.02h, available here in both 32- and 64-bit versions... Gotta love it. They said they solved that, but the fix didn't seem to last. The way these AV programs seem to work, I would not more trust them than fly to the moon. I guess teh good news is that if one of two passes, at leasat folks have a choice. Works for me ... |
