The Mound is almost the same as a UK Red package Bounty, and just for you Angela, as I know you like pottering in the kitchen, is a recipe. http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/recipes/540385/homemade-bounty-bars |

I've just been asked the bizarrest question I've heard for a very long time. My mother-in-law wants to know if we mind her selling one of her bedrooms (which is upstairs) to her neighbour. Some details: Instead of buying ourselves a home some years ago, we helped her buy (outright - so there is no outstanding mortgage) a three-bedroomed, two storied, semi-detached freehold property in south-west London. I knew it was a terrible idea but my other half didn't think so at the time - although he has long since agreed with me because she's used the house as a sort of blackmail weapon ever since :/ I hate being right in circumstances like that, I really, really do... Anyway, the house next door was bought as a leasehold by a property developer, who split it into two smaller properties and then sold them. The neighbour's who want the room have told my mother-in-law "not to worry, we're lawyers and we'll sort out all the legal work" *boggle eyes out to Jupiter* She thinks that's a good thing *SNORT* but then, she does like a vat or two of wine a day, and I am in no position to run intercept or stop her if she decides to go ahead because all we have is a verbal agreement that she would consult us before doing anything with the house. My other half is too unwell to deal with his mum, so there is a very real possibility she will go ahead. According to her, no figure has been mentioned. How would you even calculate a fair price for something like that? Has anyone here ever done something like this themselves, or know of someone who did? If they have, could you let me know how it turned out, please? Thank you! :) I wouldn't oh...and did we say we like humans too? Well we do :) |

There is something called a conservatorship. Look into it. And faster than the lawyers next door! |

...that's an American term, I think we will find that Annie is in the UK, in which case it is "Lasting power of attorney". Very useful. Simple to obtain if one can prove that the old soak has enough understanding at the time of its establishment to understand what's going on, otherwise much less so. They can be set up while the person is in command of their faculties, but it sounds as though "mum" is just about at the end of that state :-( Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

We have power of attorney on this side of the pond, but they can be revoked by the person granting the power at any time. What she needs is to be appointed by the court to handle mum's affairs which can only be reversed by a court. (They also have something for healthcare and she should get that as well.) |

The park used to have Vending machines in the Washroom, why are they gone? They got vandalized, yep, there has been crimes committed in the country, cities seem to have declining crime rates, out here people look for something to steal from My car every night, but then I do not have a garage, just a car port, for a 17 year old car, that I have to duck My head down in order to get in the car, so that I can drive said car. Maybe in 2022 I can finance a Mustang, probably a used 2013-2014 coupe, I don't like Convertibles, I need a big door, I'm 6 foot 1 inch tall. I drive a car that seems to be made for Micronians...(No offense meant) Today at great risk to the 'new' driver seat, I put the seat back 1 notch from fully upright, so that I could get in and out of the car, a bit easier, not to mention be slightly easier to drive, but then I weigh about 400 lbs... I also have a Tilt Steering column being sent to Me, that I bought, that is for My zx2, plus I have a seat belt extender on order from Ford, the extender is Free, the Tilt Steering Column was $42.74 delivered. In the UK lasting power of attorney is granted by the court of protection, and, as far as I'm aware, stays in place until after the death of the person concerned. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Gary and Rob, thank you for the advice :) It's comforting to know my initial thought (that she's somewhat thoroughly lost the plot more than a bit of a lot, or has become at best, a little misguided in her thinking) is shared by others. Apparently there's something called a flying freehold which looks like trouble waiting in the wings but a nice little earner for lawyers *elevate nose* can't have that can we people? :) I don't expect her to co-operate with regards any form of power of attorney to be honest. I've got a fight on my hands and I'm not looking forward to it :/ Vic, I'm sorry to hear about your vending machines. Despite my mistrust of them, I don't approve of them being pillaged without just cause. Hope the car seat works out okay and gives you many comfortable years behind the wheel :) I wouldn't I wonder what I was going to say next? Lost in the fogs of time, obviously :) |
