No 3 is interesting :-) Didn't you already know that. Some US States are very low tax area's in relative terms and have been for years. And it's all legal, they keep telling us. |

No 3 is interesting :-) I really like this quote from the article Although the Cayman Islands are self-governing, they are a British Overseas Territory. Isn't it nice to be number one in something you can be proud of? |

No I didn't :-( @ Gary, no for the simple fact that I had I been doing anything like that I would keep my mouth shut. Cameron's mistake was having a pop at those who used tax avoidance schemes such as overseas unit trusts. Now he's been found to have used such trusts himself... |

No 3 is interesting :-) Clyde, You are mostly correct in this. Consider the State of Texas. NO State Income Tax. LOW State taxes on Corporations. And yet, we still run a Balanced State Budget -- required to do so by the Texas Constitution... We do this by a combination of restraining State spending and making up the rest through a combination of other taxes, income from State owned property (such as the Permanent University Fund -- helps to support both the University of Texas system and the Texas A&M University system), and user fees. I really can't speak of the other States... but in Texas, it is not the State Government that gives temporary exemption from Property Taxes on Real Estate for businesses relocating to various parts of Texas. Property Taxes are Assessed and Collected by the various County Governments in Texas, which is then shared with the City and ISD (Independent School District) governments in that County according to the Property Tax rates that each have and the actual location of the Property. The State doesn't see this money nor does it have a role in the process other than setting the maximum tax rates (which many if not most jurisdictions charge). Now there is one partial exemption to this in the ISD funding. A rather infamous court case (down here in Texas -- aka the 'Robin Hood' law the legislature had to adopt to comply with the court decision) forced the ISDs to share some of their tax revenue with each other to help eliminate the funding imbalance between the so-called 'Rich' ISDs and the so-called 'Poor' ISDs. 'Property Tax' incentives for Business relocation in Texas are decided on by a combination of the applicable County, City, and ISD officials, not the State Government officials. Yes, these incentives do decrease to some small extent the Property Tax revenue collected by the County, City, and ISD in question. That much is true. But the County, City, and ISD in question do more than make up this loss in revenue through other means, namely an increase in economic activity (more sales tax revenue for the County and City -- and the State too, one reason the State allows it), as well as a general increase in other property values (benefiting all three). Now then, you call the USA an 'interesting experiment'... True. But so is the State of Texas. Remember, Texas has 254 Counties (more than 5x the number of States in the USA). Just as the People in Texas have different levels of needs (not to mention also having different needs altogether) from the people say of... Maine or Montana, so also the same applies to, for instance, the People of Brewster County, Texas (sparsely populated rural semi-arid West Texas) vs. the People of Dallas County, Texas (densely populated urban North-Central Texas) vs. some of the more agricultural counties in Central Texas and East Texas and South Texas such as Erath County (Central Texas) or Hidalgo County (Rio Grande Valley -- far South Texas). |

MajorKong... No Income Tax? Then who pays for healthcare, education, pension for the elderly and infrastructure in Florida? And of course the US Army:) |

MajorKong... Lots of OTHER taxes levied by the State and Local Governments pay for their share. But, you might not understand. There IS Federal Income Tax collected in Florida. Just no State Income Tax. |

MajorKong... I see. Sounds very much like the Scandinavian tax systems. First you pay taxes in the town you live in. Then to the county. And then to the state (federal tax so to speak). A funny thing about our tax agency is that I have better discussions and arguments with them than I have with my own bank:) Ops. that was off topic. But Trumph knows how to deal with tax agencies. He can even afford to sue them:) |

Florida gives very little 'benefits' to its people. Don't agree: Move to another State. Thats funny. I have had that impression that many elderly people moved to Florida to spend their last years there. Elderly people (I'm getting there soon:) ) are usually a tax burden. |

Tax tax taX See what happens to that dollar you get ... Before my employer can write me my check for the dollar: He has to pay property tax to have his office He has to pay business license tax twice, one fee to the state and another to the city He has to pay business registration tax He has to pay minimum business tax, but he gets a credit for that on his income tax He has to pay utility tax to have electricity to have light to see the check He has to pay sales and use tax to buy the blank check He has to pay sales and use tax to buy the ink to fill the check out For the moment we will assume he didn't buy a desk and chair and pay the taxes on those items Now before he can write out one dollar he has to pay FICA tax and Medicare tax He also has to pay employment training tax He also pays unemployment tax He also pays workers compensation insurance tax Okay now for my dollar I have to pay income tax to the feds I have to pay income tax to the state I have to pay FICA tax I have to pay medicare tax I have to pay disability tax All before I get it. Of course I also have to pay property tax so I have a place to sleep Now to spend that dollar I have to pay sales and use tax, perhaps utility tax, gasoline tax, transportation tax. I'm sure I missed a few and that is for where I live, other place have more and different taxes. America is the land of the TAX! |
