The SETI@home screensaver exists only for CPU tasks: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=7944253&offset=0&show_names=0&state=1&appid= Select Running "SETI@home v8 v8.00" task and click [Show graphics] to test (GPU tasks/app "(opencl_ati....)" don't have graphics/screensaver) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

melissa mendenhall had someone looked at your system they would see you do have 2 CPU task and 2 GPU tasks . If the screensaver was working then possibly you got some update for win 10 witch may have changed your setting and turned off the screensaver I will assume you haven't played around with the Boinc screensaver setting itself as that used to let you Blank the screen So unless you stopped doing the CPU units I would check out the windows personalisation preferences (win 7 not shore if still the same in win 10) to see if you had some sort of update and it's turned off the screensaver |

Also melissa mendenhall the screen saver is part of Boinc (Seti project) so there are no severs involved . It runs in the background on your machine just like any other screensaver :-) |

Question on BOINC Screen Saver... I am using Win 7 Pro 64-bit SP1... Starting at 'Start,' how do I 'drill down' to FIND this screen saver? Is it possible to 'edit' it and remove a bit of text? River Song (aka Linda Latte on planet Earth) "Happy I-Phone girl on the GO GO GO" |

I am using Win 7 Pro 64-bit SP1... Starting at 'Start,' how do I 'drill down' to FIND this screen saver? Is it possible to 'edit' it and remove a bit of text? Right-click on a free space on your desktop->Personalize->Screen Saver is the quickest way. The screen saver you're looking for in this case is called BOINC. It's not possible to add or remove text to/from the BOINC screen saver. |

I did that and SEE the screen saver I'm currently using, BUT I can find no location for it on my PC. :( It seems to be completely hidden. :( River Song (aka Linda Latte on planet Earth) "Happy I-Phone girl on the GO GO GO" |

Hmmmm. I did that and SEE the screen saver I'm currently using, BUT I can find no location for it on my PC. :( It seems to be completely hidden. :( Normally under Windows, screen saver files are written into the System32 and SysWOW64 directories under the Windows directory, e.g. C:\Windows\System32\*.scr and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\*.scr BOINC its screen saver doesn't have the permission to do so and is therefore written into the Windows directory, C:\Windows\boinc.scr |

Thank you SO much, found it! I'm going to see if I can hack it and make a small change. :) River Song (aka Linda Latte on planet Earth) "Happy I-Phone girl on the GO GO GO" |

Linda Right click anywhere on the background Click Personalise Lower right of screen look for screensaver click it You are now in the screensaver window . Chose the screensaver you wish (Boinc) and to the right you will see setting once you have chosen it . There are a few setting you can change , but I'm not shore what text you wish to remove or change or if you can do it from the setting . Changing the actual code for the screen saver is let's say not possible unless your a programmer and know a lot about Boinc Edit ops sorry linda for calling you mel I should look harder at the screen :) |

Hi Darth, Thank you for your help. I'm a microwave engineer, and the name I use on-line, the last name anyway, is not my real one. I suspect that's the same with your first name here? Are you any relation to Darth Vader? :) While I have done a ton of programming, I'm not current with 'modern' languages, and have never needed to edit or create a .scr file. I wish the author of the BOINC screen saver would allow a person to BLANK OUT the name in the top right corner of it. I get questions like "Who is that?" Many others using "creative names" here may like that to? :) River Song (aka Linda Latte on planet Earth) "Happy I-Phone girl on the GO GO GO" |

No worry's Linda I see what your trying to do and ummm I think your out of luck there as it uses your username so it can display your stats so you'll just have to use your real name or not ! Mine is Glenn but then most of the people here know who I am and yes I am related to Darth Moll :) |

Stats, stars etc. rely on your user number, not your name. If you want to "hide", or express your personality then change your user name by all means, you can't however change your user number, it was assigned at the time of account creation. Rob I think she wanted just the screen saver to show her real name but still keep Linda lattee at seti so I don't think she can do both . Also if you do change your username it resets the graphs at freeDc and Bam , the totals and Rac carry over but the graphs and such start from scratch . Not that that's much of a problem |

Hi guys! Thank you for your comments and help. :) I just wanted to "blank out" my user name on the BOINC screen saver, not change it. I wish the creator of that wonderful graphic would have made allowance for that when he/she made it. :) It would be a useful addition for some, I think. My user name is the same one I use on "Second Life," a wonderful, and very busy, 3D world far out in the metaverse filled with "human-kind" a wide variety of other sentient life forms, some a bit "weird." :) "Stay on Earth. You're constantly talking about the BOINC screen saver, but is that what you mean? BOINC has its own screen saver, for when a project doesn't have a graphics application to use in the screen saver. Seti does have a graphics application to work with the Multibeam CPU application only. All other applications here at Seti comes without graphics applications, including Astropulse. So what do you see on your screen saver? A 3D wobbly graphics akin to this Seti screen saver, or an overly black screen with blue and green swirls through it, interdicted by your name and credits at various projects? The Seti screen saver was converted from the static Seti Classic screen saver by Matt Lebofsky, if I am not mistaken. That happened someplace in 2000. The BOINC screen saver was made by Rom Walton, and has been around since BOINC 6.something. For hacking into the screen saver code and removing the name, you can download the Seti source code and do so. Or in the case of the BOINC screen saver, the BOINC source code. |

Wow! "Ageless" one.. Wow indeed.. All I wanted to do, if possible, was to remove my name from the 'User info' box on the right side of the BOINC classic screen saver screen. I get questions as to WHY my last name is different on the screen, when people see it, than it is in RL (real life). I do not want to explain what "Second Life" is, why I use it daily, and why I use a phony name on it. :) I will try to edit the BOINC source code. I will likely have to download and open it as a .txt file? Some code is 'touchy' and doesn't like to be opened in other than the language used to create it. Yoiks! I just looked at the 'Boinc souce code' link while typing this. There appears to be no download for it? I see a lot of 'gobble-de-gook' tho. :) I also see that 'Git' is req'd to view/edit the code, assuming I can get the source code. :) "Live long and prosper, huh?" I will try to edit the BOINC source code. Without even a bit of basic knowledge of C and C++ I wish you good luck. BOINC its parts aren't programmed in BASIC or in Python or any other language you can easily follow. You'll need someone with the knowledge to do so, and then recompile the screen saver. Now, that latter part is the easiest, as about everything for it is built into the source code. Then it's just follow the instructions and BOINC, including the new screen saver is built. Which leaves downloading the source code and hacking it. Don't look at me, I don't know enough of the languages either to do so. All I wanted to do, if possible, was to remove my name from the 'User info' box on the right side of the BOINC classic screen saver screen. That's the Seti screen saver, not the BOINC screen saver. I linked to an image of the Seti screen saver in my previous post. That's done by the Seti Multibeam v8 graphics application, not by BOINC. It only shows in Windows' Screen Saver options as the BOINC screen saver, because BOINC is the managing program. If you were to run for instance BOINC by World Community Grid, the screen saver would be called World Community Grid. |

Wow! "Ageless" one.. Wow indeed.. A much simpler option would be to only use your first name for your Windows user account. Open Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts Then Change your account name SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the BP6/VP6 User Group[ |
