Empirical Mourns The Loss Of One Of Its Brewery Cats: RIP, Gozer

RAVENSWOOD (a Chicago IL, Neighborhood) — Empirical Brewery is mourning the loss of one of its beloved employees, Gozer the cat.

Gozer, along with Venkman, Ray and Egon, became part of the Empirical family in late 2014, adopted to guard the brewery's grain.

The brewery's feral cat colony gained its own fan following and became a poster child of sorts for Tree House Humane Society's Cats at Work program, in which feral felines are deployed to control an area's rat population. ...

Stressed by the Election? In Maine, There's a Cat for That

Americans are seriously stressed about the upcoming election, according to the American Psychological Association. According to a recent APA survey, more than half of adults in the U.S. are stressed about politics.
In Portland, Maine, some kittens are on stand-by to help people cope.

Grace is hungry, if I give Her more canned food now, She won't be able to eat later this month, for days possibly, I have dry food, but She won't eat that, what do I do??

I only have $1.10 in the bank right now.

Ration it to last until you can buy more, and be careful she doesn't try to eat you.

Have you tried mixing dried into canned to stretch the canned food she like a bit further - I know some cats will take dried food this way, others won't.

Another idea, try pre-softening the dried food to give it a consistency more like the canned. Again success depends on how fussy the cat is.

My opinion is that unless there are some underlying health issues, a kitty is not going to starve themselves.
My kitties have their dry Purina Naturals kibbles available at all times, and that is 99% of their diet. I have tried other varieties, but this has always been their favorite. And dry kibble is better for their dental health, the crunching of it helps keep their teeth in better condition.
Sure, they go bonkers for the occasional tuna or canned kitty food treat, but they never get it often enough that they 'hold out' for it or stop eating their normal dry kibble rations.
I think Grace will do just fine if she does not get her preferred mushy food for a few days or more. If she gets hungry enough, she should munch on the dry kibble. I think she has just been a bit spoiled (pampered) and wants her special mushy food. Cats are notorious for turning their nose up at food offerings if they think that something better is in the offing by holding out.

Now the caveat would be, if she is having any kind of tooth or mouth problems that would cause her discomfort crunching the dry food. Only a proper vet visit would determine that.

I would save the canned food and leave the dry kibble out for her. If she gets hungry, she should eat it. If she would go a week without eating, then give her the canned food, but get her to a vet for a checkup.

I've added some water to the dry food, I've mixed some canned food to the dry, She managed to eat the canned, Grace picks at Her canned food with Her paw and claws, so this is easy for Her.

I've got enough canned at 1 can a day, next month I have to get the central gas furnace repaired, on the 1st I'll buy Her a small bag of Meow Mix, sigh. That's all I can do, in December I have taxes due on the mobilehome, which could still be $102.65(6months) or they might be $80.30yr(I prefer to pay the whole year in advance at $80.30, making two $40.15 payments seems ridiculous to Me), since the new bill is not out yet.

Ok.

Let us know how it goes. All kitties are different, but.......
I have tried dozens of different brands and flavors of kibbles over the years to give the kitties a change of pace or find out if they liked something better. Given two bowls side by side, they always preferred the Naturals.

How old is she? If she won't eat dry food she should really have her teeth
checked. That being said, I know you can't afford it. :-(

Good News, Grace is eating that, finding a 3.5lb bag wasn't easy, it's the original formula. I decided to raid the Merrick card, next month I'll just add more I guess back into the card, so the furnace can get fixed.

@ Suzie: Grace is 8yrs, no I can't, I haven't won the lottery yet, no I don't play that, I've never one.

I did get back from Barstow, car jerking from time to time, I had to go get a flu shot and see the Doctor, sine this is the Cat thread I'll report inn the Don't thread instead.

Great news! Glad that Grace likes that flavor too. And I think it is a bit more nutritious than Meow Mix.

YAY!!!

Today I noticed another small problem, Grace went to drink some water, after eating Her dry food, She didn't like what She saw or maybe smelled, She then drank out of a dish filled with water that I'd eaten out of the night before, one that I have to wash for dinner, there was no soap in the dish, as I put that on the sponge, Her water dish will eventually need replacement I think.

I just did My estimate for next months billing, if the gas heater for the mobilehome costs very little to fix, I think I might have enough for a new water bowl, Hers seems like it fouls up easy. The heater has to cost $120 or less total or I'm out of luck for November.

LOL....
Lori's kitties don't like it much when she hauls out the Kirby to vac up the carpet.
Dearly departed TyTy was terrified of even the sight of it being rolled out, bless his soul. Would usually tear off down the basement stairs to find refuge.
Leo, Starbucks, and Bella just generally take note of it now, and find a place to hide out until the commotion is over.

I don't think I ever saw one try to take a swipe at it though....LOL.
