I've been keeping a close eye on this evening's new v8 GPU tasks and saw several '_2' resends come through. Taking a closer look at one of those, from WU 2036569132 I noticed an Android host, 379492, which has been signed up since 8 Sep 2014, has contacted the server 3273 times, and has total credit of 0. It apparently has never successfully completed a task in either v7 or v8 but still keeps diligently spinning its wheels. Looking at the Application details page for the host, it has received 30 v8 tasks just today, spread across 6 different Android apps, all of them apparently failing with "error: only position independent executables (PIE) are supported." Now, I know nothing about Android apps (don't have a smart phone, don't want one), but it sure seems as if this host is getting sent apps that don't actually support it. If, on the other hand, there's something this user can do to stop completely wasting his or her time, this represents a prime example of why there really, really should be an "official" way of having the project notify a user that his host has gone off the rails and is accomplishing zilch. Anyway, I just hate to see somebody who's volunteered resources of any kind to help out the project get left by the side of the road like this.

Two Android based hosts here and very few successful results provided. Attempted newest version, but still having little luck. Suspending computations on both in the next couple hours for review. ID: 1758611 · |

It might(?) also have something to do with the BOINC/Android combo used? [3.x Android with the HTC BOINC, in this case. I use 'standard' BOINC and Android 4.4, and it works... For me.]

Android 6.0 on a 2013 Nexus 7 is having the issues - standard BOINC as downloaded from the Play store. Android 6.0 on a MotoX Pure Edition has no issues - also with standard BOINC Now running beta version on the 2013 Nexus 7 for another data point. ID: 1759542 · |
