Now you know what armed teachers are
https://www.usnews.com/news/us/articles/2018-02-28/police-in-georgia-respond-to-shots-fired-at-high-school
Police say a teacher who fired a gun inside a Georgia classroom taught social studies and was the play-by-play announcer for the high school's football team.

What a bunch of sicko's. :-O

Oh dear.
But AR-15 is not an assault rifle.
It's a semi-automatic weapon designed for hunters and sport shooters.
And some in the US say also for self defense...
Personally I prefer a Ruger Mini 14.

Trump says lawmakers are "petrified of the NRA".

Does he actually mean what he says, or is he just saying the right things to boost his popularity?

Cheers.

If a House Representative has been taking the NRA's money and therefore getting the NRA members votes, can that House member afford to have ~2% of the votes swing to the other side?

couldn't that be blackmail?

The US Bill of Rights was written 100 years before it appeared in the US, and your Laws were written almost 600 years before 1776, because the first Bill of Rights was written in 1689, and the Assizes Act was written in 1183, in England, UK.

Your Laws are based on English Common Laws.

If the UK can change to a Society where you're 54 times less likely to die in a mugging, and where burglary has a virtually zero chance of involving a gun, no children are killed in mass shootings in school, the Police aren't regularly armed, and you're therefore not going to die because your tail light is out, yet when they are armed they undergo training designed by the SAS, and you can walk in the dark without fear, all based on the Rule of Law, a bit of paper, and we're all free, with free healthcare, why can't 'the greatest country in the World?'

Your 'right' to own a gun is that important?

BTW I have legal possession of 11 Firearms, and 3 Shotguns, but unlike you have been properly vetted by Anti-Terrorist Police, and had my Mental Health subject to scrutiny, before being authorised to legally possess, and I'm happy with the system, it could be improved, but it protects my Society, and even though I have Firearms, I don't feel any need to carry them every day for Self Protection, which hasn't been a legal right for more than 72 years, more than a full lifetime ago, because its unnecessary here.

When will the US solve its problem? After how many more dead children will it take?

This quote has been making the rounds from that libbiest lib who ever libbed, that foreigner who just couldn't understand the intricacies of the U.S. Constitution: Ronald Reagan

“I do not believe in taking away the right of the citizen for sporting, for hunting and so forth, or for home defense,” he said. “But I do believe that an AK-47, a machine gun, is not a sporting weapon or needed for defense of a home.”

Reagan erred in his use of terminology: The type of weapon used by Patrick Purdy, and referenced by Reagan in his comment, was actually a semi-automatic version of the AK-47, not a “machine gun.” In 1994 Reagan was a co-signatory (along with former presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter) to a letter urging the U.S. House of Representatives to support a ban on the domestic manufacture of “assault weapons” such as semi-automatic AK-47s.

This was after the 1989 Stockton massacre which was committed with an AK-47 in semi-automatic fire mode, as was the AR-15 in Parkland.

Bring it into the 21s century by restricting that right to owning 1 rifle & 1 handgun.

I wouldn't agree with that for two reasons

First I own different calibres and different types of rifle for different uses, in real terms I own a .22lr Target Rifle, a .22lr Rifle for Pests & Vermin, a .17HMR Rifle for Pests, Vermin, and Foxes, a .223 REM for Pests, Vermin, Foxes, and two species of Deer in England & Wales, three species in other parts of the UK. a 6.5x55SM Rifle for Pest, Vermin, Foxes, and four species of Deer in England & Wales, three species in other parts of the UK, and a .308 Win Rifle for all of the above, plus Wild Boar.

There being an issue of too little or too much gun for the Quarry.

In addition, as a Deer Stalker I could apply for a Breech Loading Handgun, but the 1997 Amendments are so badly written that I couldn't pull the trigger on a Range, as that is illegal, but could be instructed by the Police to shoot an Injured Wild Animal in a Public Place, without any practice. Hence I'l not apply for something that forces legal incompetence.

I suppose I could manage with two Shotguns instead of three, but that wasn't even mentioned.

To many of our people.

At least another generation, sadly IMO.

Effective range of an AK-47 is 350m, still more than enough to out gun any 9mm/.40/.45 semi-auto pistol (effective range 50m), but the effective range of an AR-15 is 600m.

A quick search on Wiki shows the Congressional Research Service citing more than 300 million guns as of 2009

Yes, pretty insane really with about 100 guns per 100 residents.
But almost of all the guns are not used to kill other persons.
And let's say that the US scrap a lot a guns so that level comes down to about 20 to 30 guns per 100 residents as it is in our Nordic countries.
Does some really belive that people getting killed by guns will diminish if that happened?
No way.
