How the coronavirus led to the highest-ever spike in US gun sales

Is that a damning indictment against the quality of those in power in the USA?...

I would say rather it's an indication that a whole lot of people are waking to the fact that an overburdened response system will not be able to save their asses when Mr Bad Guy kicks in the door to their home in search of whatever loot is to be had.

The AVERAGE American family cannot afford a million dollar Pelosi / Clinton wall around their castle with 24 hour security guards............but they can afford a time tested and proven means of home defense.

Also in our only one world.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/10/politics/pandemic-coronavirus-jacobson-supreme-court-abortion-rights/index.html
Today, the question is how bluntly the case, known as Jacobson v. Massachusetts, might be wielded to justify curbing individual liberties without caveat.

In the first decision of its kind during the coronavirus crisis, the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals relied wholly on the 1905 case to permit Texas to include abortion clinics in its ban on non-essential medical services and surgeries. The panel, ruling by a 2-1 vote, rejected arguments regarding the right to abortion ingrained by the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade and subsequent rulings.

"Jacobson instructs that all constitutional rights may be reasonably restricted to combat a public health emergency," wrote Judge Stuart Kyle Duncan for the majority.

The bible belt right in its efforts to overturn Row v Wade has just handed an immense victory to gun control advocates. Next democratic POTUS, there will be one, simply will declare a public health emergency over gun violence, hence suspending the constitutional right of the Second Amendment, and send the military out into every castle to collect every gun in America. The NRA should be dancing with joy over this bible belt right effort to deny them guns and hand complete total victory to gun control advocates. It may even be worth the cost of the short term loss of abortion rights.

We are seeing a fantastic cultural shift, almost overnight, with the requirements of social distancing and 'lockdowns' to save people from being killed.

Can the same sort of thing be promoted for the USA to move on and away from the "Wild West guns" ethos and Marketing?

Indeed, has a mythical Wild West been cultivated by Marketing and politics and propaganda?...

All in the USA?

This article makes for compelling reading:

What would happen if all Gravity suddenly were eliminated........the same thing nothing. Because it's a fairy tale. The bad guys(and they are present in every society) will never give up firearms no matter what they say and intelligent people realize this and will never willingly give up their right to defend themselves from predation............

A suspected gunman believed to be dressed as a police officer has been captured after several people were shot in Nova Scotia, Canadian police say.

Police have not confirmed the number of injuries or whether anyone has died.

Residents in the rural town of Portapique had been advised to lock themselves indoors or shelter in basements while the man was at large.

Police said the suspect had been driving what appeared to be a police car before changing to another vehicle.

They say they were first alerted to an incident involving firearms late on Saturday.

Tweets by Nova Scotia police identified the alleged attacker as 51-year-old Gabriel Wortman.

He was not employed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police but "may be wearing a RCMP uniform", they said.

"There's one difference between his car and our Royal Canadian Mounted Police vehicles: the car # [registration plate]. The suspect's car is 28B11, behind rear passenger window. If you see 28B11 call 911 immediately," they tweeted on Sunday.

The gunman later changed cars to drive a "small silver Chevrolet SUV", police added.

Mass shootings are relatively rare in Canada where gun ownership laws are stricter than in the neighbouring United States.

Crazies will always find a way. Even where gun control laws are strict and purport to stop this type of behavior........it's not the fact that guns exist, it's the fact that crazy people do crazy things.

To prohibit citizens from having the means to defend themselves from insane behavior is not logical.

Per capita Canada has many fewer than we do. Does that mean they have fewer crazies per capita than we do? If so why?

Is there any hard evidence or reliable referenced research that shows having a population saturated with lethal weaponry to hand somehow reduces crime or even somehow reduces deadly crime?

All the studies and reports I've seen across the years all consistently give the one big figure for increased successful (fatal) suicide.

Or, how is the world different for the USA?
