Songbird: Keep a very close eye on your computer, note exactly what it is doing, report anything that is strange to the correct thread in Beta, although you may have to wait a bit to get enough credit to do so. As you have just started over in Beta it is probably best if you do not run using the "Anonymous platform" just in case you have problems caused by how you are running rather than by the application under test. By running using the Anonymous platform you have keep a close watch that you are running the correct version of the applications, so you may have to update fairly often, whereas running "stock" the updates happen without you doing anything. I'm sad to see that there seems to be a missunderstanding of my intentions. I was ALWAYS on the projects side. Why else would I be here?? But maybe it was also my fault by running unapproved apps here on main, although I was always careful and I NEVER encouraged others to do the same. Anyway, I just made a decision. I won't put the "clean science" of this project in danger anymore. NX-01, over & out |

I've been an alpha and beta tester on Test4Theory@home, now vLHC@home, always by invitation. Now I am a beta tester of CMS-dev and Atlas-test. But I always used the apps given by the developers, never tried to do something on my own, also because that goes beyond my capabilities. I am running stock apps here, at Einstein@home and climateprediction.net. Tullio |

Songbird: Posting to beta requires no RAC - apart from the cafe area. this is precisely to enable users who have just attached and run into problems to communicate. @ Songbird, please PM me at beta so we can try to sort out your problem there, should it persist. in general, for beta testing just keep an eye on things and report if something seems to go wrong, like getting lots of inconclusives/invalids or outright app failures. also keep reading the beta news thread. I'm still checking inconclusives. Task 4661591600 Computer 7203378 Owner f_n_t SETI@home v8 Anonymous platform (NVIDIA GPU) "setiathome enhanced x41zc, Cuda 5.00 Detected setiathome_enhanced_v7 task." Don't do that. |

...and a few more from the same person with the same failure code: 4660449202 4659743850 4659724441 4659598597 .... I guess some folks do/will not read what has been said a few times already. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

I doubt he even read about it - he hasn't posted here since 2011. Either he worked out how to do it by himself, without thinking about the consequences, or some silly b****r gave him the idea. Without pointing the finger in this particular case, I often worry about what might be said on team message boards or independent team web sites, where we can't or won't see it. |

Boy, you guys are making me nervous. Would it be obvious to me if I had bad app_info or app_config? I have used only the information gleaned from these boards and I certainly don't look for it on other sites, save for Mikes World. In the end, I don't want to screw up any tasks. |

Nervousness, not me, I just can't stop this twitch... It depends how bad bad is. You may get a warning, run nothing at all, run an app that produces nothing but heat and garbage. For example a couple of days ago I did a bad restore and brought back an outdated app_info and trashed a couple of dozen AP tasks in a few minutes. But I had an app name that was plain wrong and just had a warning message, no tasks were run and I was most confused until I spotted that I'd typed a zero instead of an "O"... If you are unsure of what you are doing then it is far easier on the nerves to either run "stock" applications (no app_info and no app_config files) or wait until Beta testing has been completed, Lunatics have wrought their magic, Richard has had a chance to catch breath, consume coffee so he can deliver the next generation of his magnificent installer which does most of the hard work for you. you should be fine if you use published app_info.xml or aistubs and only edit count or similar. when you start editing name fields and version numbers, then you should really know what you are doing. @ Louis as far as I can see, you are running stock CPU as anon as per sticky thread. no problem there. The only editing I have done is to the <count>#</count> portion to adjust the number of threads running through the GPU. And that has not been related to the MB v8 only AP jobs. I did add the v8 section to my app.info but in stock configuration, along with the required files to the project file. I have found only 2 inconclusives and no errors on v8. Both inconclusives were on the same machine https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=7383754 Both jobs were also invalid on at least one wingman. The jobs were https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=4657039120 https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=4648007686 The processors seem to be under strain when running v8 WUs on my older Xeons(the cpu fans howl sometimes) but I've had no errors or inconclusives on either of those rigs. If I get a rash of problems I will post them. "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

The kitties are still patiently awaiting the new Lunatics installer for v8. I have been camped on the Lunatics site, and know the tremendous amount of time and effort they are spending on creating and testing new apps to make them appropriate to release into the wild. Most of you do not have a clue about the number of iterations an app may go through and then thrown away because it is not right before it gets released for live use. Tweak this, test. Try that, test. Oops, test. Maybe this will work, test. And this takes a LOT of time and effort and then time to test again. They are to be commended for their dedication. Any naysayers best stand down, or they shall have some reckoning with the kittyman. They are doing their dead level best to get us all going again with an optimized package that works for almost all without too many glitches. Best to get it as right as possible the first time out. Thumbs up, you Lunatics. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

They are to be commended for their dedication. Indeed. And more than patience, they have the knowledge. I do not posses coding skills.... "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

I just visited the Lunatics web site. I saw names I recognized, people who have helped me here. You have my thanks. I know you are busy as hell, but taking your time to help others at the same time is great, above and beyond to be sure. Peace and happy crunching! |

They are to be commended for their dedication. I do not even have the time/ability to help with the testing.... Just a lot of paitence, I will wait untill its all running smoothly again and then start crunching... Kevin |

They are to be commended for their dedication. No reason to stop crunching. There is plenty of information available to keep your PC busy. I am still crunching v7, v8 and I added BETA. It is all quite stable. |

Not completely, I am still running AP's on CPU and have set up V8 also on CPU. I also run (normally just 1 core) CPND. Its just my GPU's, I've lent them to Einstein for the time being, only until the installer is up and running. Time is my main problem, the last thing that I want to do is set up something that is not quite right and find out later that I have trashed lots of work. Kevin |
