Message 1844110 - Posted: 23 Jan 2017, 21:11:25 UTC - in response to Message 1844084.

Bought a loaf of sugar-free whole wheat bread the other day, and I have to say it's quite good. I can't tell there's no sugar in it.

The sugar is only included in 'normal' bread recipe to make the yeast act quicker.
The yeast also breaks down the starch in the flour into sugars, this chemical reaction is also responsible for the carbon dioxide that causes the bread to rise. So the sugar is not actually needed, but more time is required to produce similar results.

Interesting. Thank you. It was actually bargain bread. For the extra baking time, I would think they'd charge more.

It's not baking time, it's the time taken for the bread to rise, double in size from what it was when first mixed.
Cooking time is same in both cases.

That's what I meant. Production time before cooking.

I see it on the end of a fish hook. Here fishy, fisky, fishy. Come to Papa and become a fish stick.

Yes, I think we've crossed our political line in this thread.

Let's get back to talking about Recipes and Food.

I decided to order a couple pizza pies frozen from Gino's East in Chicago and have them delivered. They should come next week. I really prefer a thin, crispy crust, but Gino's is a deep-dish style. Nonetheless, it's very good. I had it in person, many moons ago.

Almost everything goes on a pizza.
You only have to learn what not goes on pizza.

What's for dinner tonight?
Pölsa of course.
Haggis it's called when in Scotland.
However served with no "neeps and tatties" but with potatoes and pickled beets instead .

I'm never watch professional football, so the Super Bowl really doesn't make me hungry, but I bet tonight is big for pizza delivery!

Super Bowl coming up very soon.
Reminds me of a shrimp cocktail in the Dominican Republic.
I think it was three shrimps in it...
The bowl was nice though.

Seafood on pizza really doesn't appeal to me, but whatever floats your boat. ;~)
