My daily driver a 2011 Audi A3 died. They want $6,000 replace the fuel pump. I said no thank you. Audi is buying it back from me anyways. So I left it at the dealership and waiting for a check. New daily driver is a 2013 Ford Edge. Getting about 20 mpg. Boy did I like the A3's 60 mpg. Plus I can buy diesel for $1.50 a gallon. Gas sell for about $2.75 locally.

Gasoline here sells for at least $2.359 a gallon, in Barstow CA.

Oh but I do know, My relatives did visit your side of the world, ride on the trains there, seen the sights. Although My Dad beat them there, in what you might call an all expenses paid trip, with visits to N.Africa, Sicily, Anzio, the UK, N.France, and Germany.

Yes. And why are the US complaining?
http://www.globalpetrolprices.com/Venezuela/gasoline_prices/
Heck. In Norway, an oilproducing country, the price is almost the tripple. 1.74$ compared to 0.63$ per litre in the US.

Me I don't complain about the price of gasoline(gas), it's been higher, with a
lack of alternatives in some areas, people pay for gas, and then move on. People
here do complain about the traffic here, but about the price of fuel? That I've
never experienced. I can remember the price of gasoline being as low as $0.25 a gallon,
but that was before the Arab oil embargo happened.

Perhaps it's only rumours that I have heard of.
But I'm quite certain it's people living in more urban places than you do who complains the most about gas/petrol prizes.
At very least in my country.
Today it seems unpossible that a kid have to walk a mile to school!

Oops getting political here...

From what I know of Los Angeles County CA, as an example, they have lots of trains and buses, of course people there are increasing their ridership of the light rail and subway lines there, they even have a light rail line that connects inland areas to the beach in far off Santa Monica, also Measure M is going to be on the ballot, which if passed would add 0.05 cents on to the local sales tax to raise $140 Billion for more rail expansion through out the county, I'm hoping the measure passes. I just wish I could live there again.

As to walking a mile to school, I did at least that much walking twice a day, going from 26002 Vianna St to Eshelman Av along Pacific Coast Hwy, all by Myself, from the 1st grade(6yrs) to the 3rd grade(8yrs), from 26002 Viana St to Eshelman Ave Elementary School is exactly 1 mile according to Bing, both are in Lomita CA. I even had a key to the house My Dad rented back in the 1960's.

LOL:)
Yes. I remember those days about 50 years ago.
Trudging in the snow during the winter darkness...

Actually I had three "grandsons" in mind living about five minutes walking distance from us.
When here they always call their mother/car when they want to come back home.

And of course all drivers who insists to drive in walking only spaces.
Mostly men between 20 to 30 of age and with no disabilities...
But perhaps walking 100 meters is too much for them.

I was not complaining about fuel price in general only relative. The Audi cost me about 3 cents a mile to drive. The Ford about $0.14 per mile fuel cost.

I was just out running an errand in my 1999 Saturn SC-1, and honked at somebody, and then the horn wouldn't stop! I had to pull over and take the fuse out. The funny thing is, the horn hadn't been working for three years, anyway, so why did it suddenly decide to come back to life with a vengeance!?

I don't know, but I do know a friend who has 3 Saturn's, one He is selling to a friend, that had a bad tranny, all the friend had to do is swap in a good tranny for the bad one, and the car is worth more than the $600 that the car cost Him. He'd bought the car for parts at one point, I can call Him after 5pm and ask. One He drives, and the other He is fixing to sell. The horn not working might be a short in the wiring somewhere, but I'll ask.

I'd appreciate it. It was loud as it ever was when it came back to life, and then it wouldn't stop. Pretty crazy.

Yeah that sounds crazy, He helped when I had a flat tire, with one of His Saturn tires/rims, fits just fine on the Escort zx2.

For a bit I had an Escort in orbit around Saturn. ;)

Likely the switch in the steering wheel. Perhaps some foreign material has gotten dislodged and jammed in it?

I was also thinking it could be the steering wheel buttons. I wonder how hard it is to get into those? The fact it stopped working three years ago and just now came back to life and won't stop is weird. Maybe loose wires behind the buttons?

Here's a picture inside my car, showing the horn buttons. I don't know if they can be removed easily:
