Proving the existance of god is left as an exercise for students. Give examples. Proving the existance of students is left as an exercise for god. Give examples. |

The existence of god is a logical impossibility. Thor is the designer of the universe! All Hail Thor! Especially on his magnificent day, Thorsday! You can't prove that Thor isn't the designer! http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=76601 Dave, we have had a very lengthy discussion of this in the past. It got very heated several times and the moderators chose to hide many of the threads. If you are serious about discussion on the issue, someone will be, then this thread will end up in the politics forum and I expect shortly thereafter be locked or hidden. However if you intend this to be taken as humor, please let everyone know so the mods can make sure it is kept light. |

Read the Three Dialogues between Hylas and Philonous written by George Berkeley in 1713. The link is to a PDF version. If you boil all that is known and knowable, then everything is a logical impossibility and only god exists. |

That series sounds interesting. I will ask Eric to record it. I have long thought that the tendency to believe in "something" is deeply hardwired in our DNA. I cannot think of a culture, ancient or modern, that did not have a god/goddess/gods. There must be something adaptive about "believing", that evolutionary pressures caused to be a favored trait in our species. Frankly, it was this very line of thinking that first put me on the path to becoming an atheist. I was raised with religion (Catholicism) and I am thankful for the influence that religion had in my formative years, especially regarding issues of social justice. I often miss that sense of love and security that comes along with a solid sense of religious ideology. If Eric and I had been so lucky as to have had children, I would have raised them in a religious context, simply because I think it can be incredibly beneficial to one's character to have had a religious background. Also, a Judaeo-Christian background is absolutely critical to understanding much Western art, music and literature. I would have wanted that background for any children I might have had. |

I find some so called Christians, are not very Christian, but hypocritical. Me I can't be called a Christian since, I do not believe Jesus was more than a Man, a carpenter, but the son of a deity? No. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Too many books have been written about Jesus Christ to mention them here. The one I like most was written by a Jew, Robert Aron, and is "Les annees obscures de Jesus", Paris 1960. It gives a Jew's view of the figure of Christ and gave me , as a born Catholic who prefers to be called a Christian, the impression of the extent of change brought by the Greek-Latin followers like St.Paul, St.Augustine, St.Ambrose, etc, to the Jewish teaching of Jesus. I was raised Catholic, and my mother is a big Thomas Merton fan. As far as me believing in God, I've always been skeptical, and actually my mother is more spiritual than by the book believer of stuff. I think there might be something after we die, and it would be cool to have a heaven, and get some answers to the ET thing, but I'm dubious about "God". The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

I had never thought about it in that way. :~) The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Most important lesson for us and our various opinions on this subject is to respect each others opinion. (in my opinion:D) I respect other people's opinions as long as those opinions respect other opinions. It is all about respect for me. How anyone can respect the above underlined is something I wonder myself. [edit] Thread is moved per request. Please keep all conversations civilized. rOZZ Music Pictures |

The description of God in many religions is equivalent to the square root of negative one. |

The existence of god is a logical impossibility. I offer you quantum mechanics as counter point to your statement. Game, set and match. |
