Saturday afternoon win...

B-36 "Peacemaker"

I think I've seen one of those, at the Castle Air Museum, Ex-Castle Air Force Base, Atwater, California. Don't have a pic handy.

ISTR it originally had 4 turbo-prop engines, and two jets were retro-fit to help on take-off due to the weight of the nuclear bombs it carried. Or was it 4 small jets and two pusher-props for take-off?

Thinking...
Weren't there a few aircraft that had both prop engines and jet engines?

The US Navy Flight Demonstration Team, "The Blue Angels", has a C-130 Hercules with the usual 4 turbo-prop engines, and two strap-on jet engines for "Jet-Assisted Take-Off (JATO). That aircraft is one of several that they travel with, that carry spare parts and ground support equipment.

You're are talking about FAT ALBERT. But a JADO is a solid fuel rocket.

Current Jet engine technology is derivative, the US was behind and had to catch up in this race.

Late-night can't stay asleep sorta-win.
Cool breeze, cooler than it's been in weeks.
Not a real busy day, fixed some leaky faucets, no big problems.
Ah, well. try again in a little while......
